My first website using Wordpress.
Started using Drupal but got frustrated with it so opted for Wordpress. Once I realised that there were plugins to enhance the Wordpress environment and not just for the content it became easier to use without having to manually code - or so I thought. Had a few hiccups with some plugins which meant I had to search through code to find the problem and correct it. Was too far into the project to start again. That was good experience actually because it helped me to understand html5 and css to some extent.
The site is for my mate's garage business. Doing it for no charge because he's a good mate and I have always had full use of the facilities whenever I want so keeping my own garage/workshop clear is not so important.
Liked the look of buttons where the picture seemed to extend outside the border so decided to create my own using Photoshop. Never really needed or used Photoshop in the past. Most of my work has been creating vector graphics for my vinyl cutter using Coreldraw. Found it easy using Photoshop to create the buttons that are down the left sidebar of the site.
Was quite chuffed when my mate told me that yell.com had been in touch trying to get his business. They told him they had looked at his site in the hope of offering him a better web site but it is apparently one of the best they have come across so would not be able to offer him anything better as far as the web site goes. Not sure they know squat anyway so would appreciate some feedback from fellow members. It may help me to update/improve the site.

Looks good.
only 1 issue I can see is the scrolling text on the right.
it may be the fact I'm using an ipad not sure but some of the text is missing.

Thanks for that. Just tried a few display resolution tests. I get exactly the same as you if I change the resolution to 1024 x 768. Anything below 1280 has a problem. The page does not resize to fit. Don't know if there is anything I can do about that? (">

get rid of the scrolling text or restrict them into a box say top centre or sidebar.
Re: My first website using Wordpress.
At the very least you should get a couple of "MOT's" for that ;-)

Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Nice job, I looked at it on my phone and it messed up the formatting a bit. There is a WordPress plug in that coverts your site so it's compatible with phones. It's free maybe worth a look.

Looks good. How long did it take you to complete?

Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Change the background to something simpler as the red writing can be difficult to read in places.
Simplify the facebook and twitter icons.
The way the whole site reloads whenever I click a link isn't great.
The below line doesn't make any sense:
We will also send you a reminder a few weeks before your MOT is due. Call us with your vehicle details and due date or contact us using the email form on our contact page.
Overall a good effort though.
Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Looks OK, my observations which are by no means expert.
* One thing I do not like on websites and never have is 'Under Construction' sections.
I would put 'some' info here at least. maybe some bollocks about how the team are qualified to {insert qualification her} etc... just pad it out until you have the info you need.
Either that or remove the link for now.
* The Gallery. I would not have the 'Show Slideshow' option. Either have the slide show as the main gallery function or just the thumbnails. I honestly cannot imagine that it would get used...
* Customer Feedback change to 'Testimonials'.
* On the map page, have the address of the Garage too. I know it is in the contact section, but I would expect it to be printed on the map too.
Other than that, all good.
Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Just a quick thing which you may not be aware about, on the top menu you are using permalinks to give the correct links ie http://www.dymani.com/revs_motors/about-us however on the left you are using the page links, ie http://www.dymani.com/revs_motors/?page_id=15
on a side note are you using a plugin to hide the fact the site is wordpress? if so what plugin is it?
thanks

Took about six weeks or so but was only a few hours here and there when I had time. Much of the time went in messing about with Photoshop to create the icons and getting to know Wordpress and experimenting with different plugins.

Thanks Cyprus. Have modified the wording for the MOT reminder.
I can see what you mean about the red text. Will have a go with different backgrounds. Can you be more specific about the way the site reloads for you?

Thanks Goldberg. All your suggestions implemented.
Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Whoa!! They were only suggestions (albeit good ones ;))
Re: My first website using Wordpress.
Your Map & Gallery links at the bottom of the page no longer work now. I am guessing you renamed the new pages?

As for hiding any reference to Wordpress I haven't a clue. The site is hosted on my own virtual server rather than a Wordpress or any other free hosting service. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. (">

Didn't create new pages. Only changed the image on the existing map page and changed the gallery plugin settings to not show the slideshow options.
Thanks for the feedback. Will have to look to see what's happened. Wordpress is good but not perfect. Sometimes the code gets corrupted or conflicting tags get inserted when you modify something. (">
