iPhone release day queueing ?
I probably swore I'd never do this but I am thinking of queueing up on release day for an iPhone 7+ Just because I can and that I've never done it before.
Both of the stores nearest me are open from 8am.
Had anyone ever done the launch day thing ? How early realistically would I need to get there to get one ?
Any other tips ?
Cheers,
Malty
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
It it even a thing anymore? I would say you can walk in but your more likely to only get the bigger storage ones as they are always last to go.
I like the idea of the new scheme Apple are doing. £38 a month for a 20 month contract/loan. £49 up front and you get the phone (this is based on 7 128gb) with two years apple cover included. After 11 months you can send it back and get the next model, starting the 20 month term again. Repeat..
You can opt out of the Apple Care if you wish and the price is reduced accordingly. They are selling it as 2 accidental damage claims in the 2 years. Screens are £25 to replace and any other damage is £75

*Edit*
Just went on to see how much my 128gb 6s would get towards the upgrade using their own site.. The Serial/IMEI is not found... Fail..
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
I'm happy to go for a higher storage one. I'd like black or jet black or even silver so I'm fairly flexible. It has to be an iPhone 7+ though.
I just could do with knowing what time to get there. I don't want to be there silly early or anything but if I go I don't want to be disappointed - just because I've made the effort !
Went through the closest 5 stores to me on that link and none of them had any iphone 7+ available at all.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
From what I hear there will be no walk in stock at Apple Stores on Friday. Its purely reservations only.
Now what you can do is reserve a phone using the link above and pay in full on launch day.
The stock is updated every morning at around 6:45am so if you want to reserve one, best bet is to get up early and try to reserve then. This link is very handy to use to see whats in stock where, you can also customise the link to only show certain stores and certain size/modle by adding /?store=Rxxx,Rxxx&only=Plus for example (Rxxx is the store number)
From what i also hear, John Lewis will have stock available from 8am on Friday if you dont get one reserved
Thanks
Scott
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
This is the first 'major' release that I don't think I am even going to bother with, at least right now, which is the first time I won't have the new phone on release day. I found the announcement to be thoroughly underwhelming, jet black looks cool but doesn't warrant the difference in cost and the smallprint about the scratches worries me (although I imagine it's similar to any chrome backed iPaods). If a good deal is available or a jailbreak released then that will probably be enough to make me switch though.
Here is an O2 checker in case that's your network, not sure if they plan to update it for the 7. I read something about if you buy from Apple directly there is a bit of consumer law that protects you for over 2 years (perhaps up to 5), I got my 6 from them so it was factory unlocked.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
there has to be a point where mobile phones reach that levels out on new features and I think we are seeing this approaching faster and faster. Now it seems all they can do is increase CPU and RAM. Hardware wise we are pretty much done until something new and useful comes along.
Now we are seeing wearables trying to enter the fray but they are either not useful or very expensive at present. I think the physical differences between the 6 Plus (that I have) and the 7 Plus are so small that it would make no discernable difference to my everyday usage.
I'll be skipping this one unless my 6 Plus goes boom. Hopefully next years iPhone to coincide with Apple's anniversary will bring something exceptional - but I'm not holding my breath and am happy with what I've got.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
They get you on the things you don't need.
A better camera.. A year ago it was such a ground breaking upgrade, how could I need a new one already?!?
Water Resistance.. Now I can use it in the rain.. It is about time because over the years I have broke so many phones by using it in the rain I can count them on zero fingers..
Different colours..
etc..
However, I am still one of the sheep who gets sucked in ;)
I am tempted to jump onto the upgrade program, but it all depends on what my 6s would fetch me back after shelling out £700 on it last year.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
Done it a couple of times and queued from 6 one time and 7 the time before that. Was a pain in the ass tbh so this time I ordered one and will collect it around lunchtime.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
Hi
when all you rich bastards buy your 7+'s this poor guy will be here on the forum to buy your 6+ at a more affordable price £700+ for a mobile is just unjustifiable for me

Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
I'm jumping back to apple this time round the last iphone i bought was the 4s, the 5 looked like a shit upgrade and by the time the 6 came out i was enjoying messing around with various android phones.
I've now got to the point where i would like a handset that feels premium and IOS has changed a fair bit since i played with it last so will be good to have a tinker.
Mine is being delivered around the 21st i went for the 128gb Jet Black
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
I have had every major number release, I haven't had the 4S 5S 6S but I had the 1, 3G, 4,5,6 so I'm on a 2 year cycle
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?

Lol no worries though im chuffed to bits with my 6s really quick compared to my 5.

Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
so will i be able to queue for one friday am or not ? It's really hard to find anything definitive
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
I thought the shiny black ones were gone till November matey. Not sure why everyone is going mad for them TBH, remind me of my 3GS.
Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
I fancy the matt black if I'm honest but I'm sure when pre orders were sold out before you could still rock up and buy one in store, albeit in limited numbers ?
Can't see anything either way this time.

Re: iPhone release day queueing ?
Just had it confirmed by apple on the chat that there will NOT be any stock available for walk up purchase on 16th but I may be able to reserve and collect on 17th

Woman in Apple Store tonight (Edinburgh) said pre order goes live around 6am on saturday. She advised getting up early to have a chance for Sunday collection.
