So ebay to open a shop or not to shop?
So im not sure if anyone here has a shop on ebay?
Im selling a fair amount on ebay each month and im paying ebay around £50 pm in fees.
Most if my items are between £1.99 - £5 with the few over £10.
So am i likely to save money opening a shop or is it a waste of money?
Thanks in advance
TJ

Hey matey - I used to run an online shop selling radio control cars and parts and dabbled with ebay but to be honest the charges were crippling my profits. In the end I ditched ebay and spent the time and energy getting my SEO right on my website - usually came first on related searches - sometimes second for the more out there terms but either way I made a hell of a lot more money selling direct.
If most of your business is repeat sales it might be worth thinking about - offer a 5% saving for your customers buying direct and your still quids in over ebays extortionate charges!

Im trying to get a site up and running but just don't have the time to do it.
Detector is helping out there for me but the poor bloke hasn't had any internet for bloody ages and i don't want to take the piss.
I have so much i need to do and missus is 8 months gone so it needs to be done before the nipper comes along. :(
I have all the kit for making mugs and t-shirts but no way to create listings etc for them.

Use an off the shelf package like Prestashop - it's free and relatively easy to use. The community forums are great too. I've developed a few addons in the past for Prestashop and used it extensively.

Yeah detectors using opencart for me.
The sites there but it needs tweaking with a theme and other bits along with a shit load of content to add.
The actual mug and t-shirt design side is proving to be a headache, theres no easy way for customers to design on the site and submit.

Dont under estimate selling on Facebook, create a page load it up with what you got for sale, then join as many of the large selling groups on facebook as you can.
Link back to your selling page with a good advert, get a program called Ninja blaster and it will auto post to all the selling groups just make sure the timer is set to 240sec+ or facebook slap you with a post ban for 24hrs.
I have a friend who does vinyl printing mugs t-shirts posters etc working from a big shed in his garden and since using facebook he cant keep up with sales.
ps. I run a selling group in Leeds with 35k+ active members if you offer postage let me know ill send you the link to join.

I've used Joomla a few times and agree it's nice to use. Prestashop is my favourite although recently I've set a few up using WordPress which is surprisingly well supported for ecommerce using Woocommerce and all the addons. There was another one that I used a few years back that I can't remember the name of - it was commercial but SOOOOO easy to use. I'm going to have to have a dig around and see if I can find it now as I've a few new sites in the pipeline :)
