Transfer and watch movies on iPad
We regligiouslly watch everything on Plex on all devices in our house but I'm travelling a lot now and often struggle with free wifi, etc.
I have an iPad Air 2 with the latest iOS - what is the best way of transferring movies (MP4, AVI, MKV) to the iPad to watch with the least hassle? If I can avoid converting, iTunes, Etc that would be ideal.
Any recommendations?

Not really an apple user, but on the presumption that your ipad will play AVI's etc, can you not just drag and drop across your network? All my plex stuff is stored on an external drive, connected to my tower PC, but if I'm going away, then I just drag from that drive onto my netbook via the windows network.

Hi
why not just do a sync of what you want to watch when you are on wifi or have I misunderstood?
When I am going to be on train all day, before I leave home I sync all the stuff I want to watch and then when I am on train I watch it then delete it from sync.

Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
If you already use plex you can do this via sync. I have plex pass so don't know if that feature is free.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
Sync is a premium feature on Plex

ahhh, sorry, did not know that, I got plex pass life way back when it was cheap :-(
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I think sync also needs to be enabled on the server, which for me it isn't unfortunately.
I purchased AVPlayerHD for about £2. It provides a web interface for transfer of video files from desktop and I've confirmed an MP4, MKV and AVI plays on it well. :)

AV Player HD. Couple of quid to buy and it will play AVI, MKV etc no problem. Drag and drop files via iTunes as well. Been using it for a few years and it's mega easy to use.

I used buzzplayer sure it's still available and cheap too

Haven't switched my ipad on in a while but I remember loads of these players struggled with ac3 audio because of licensing and needing to buy the codec. Has this been overcome ?
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I used copy trans manager 2-3 years ago when I had apples 4s ...great tool for drag and dropping pretty much anything file to your I devices
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
VLC player works well on the iPad, I use it all the time when traveling with it.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I have an iPhone but not Apple aficionado at all. Another +1 for VLC it plays everything I chuck at it (used to use xbmc, I know kodi, but phone is not jailbroken atm)

Just back from a weeks trip and watched three movies and the latest series of TWD with AVPlayerHD and it was perfect, no problems with audio and I really liked the interface of the app. Would recommend.

When the kids want films on their iphones I will use itunes and just add the file to the vlc folder. doesn't require any syncing nonsence iirc.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
Deffo +1 for VLC player drop and drag over wifi simple and quick.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I use AV Player HD as it transfers the film from my laptop to ipad over wifi.
It only takes about 10 minutes to transfer.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I used to use Handbrake to convert as it had profiles set up already but sounds like conversion may not be necessary any more.
Re: Transfer and watch movies on iPad
I use VLC and then transfer everything through Itunes. No converting shit needed. It pretty much plays everything (except AC3 i think)
