Advice needed! Xbox or Gamecube

Im a newbie and in need of some advice.
Im torn between buying an Xbox or a Gamecube. Dont know which at the mo.
I know the gc is still cheaper than the Xbox, even with the price drop but the Xbox can do so much more. I have a friend who has a gc and Im not overly impressed with the games, but I dont know anybody that has an xbox.
I currently own a modded ps2, but its recently started to look a bit slow and dated.

Should I buy a gc or an Xbox.
Also if I was to buy an xbox, is it worth buying a premodded one and if so where is the best place to look?

I had the same difficult decision to make a few months ago now. I am pleased that I went with the Xbox.

The deciding factor for me was that the xbox could be modded. :)
Plus the fact that I am a FPS nut and needed Halo.

I'm a gaming addict and will end up getting a GC eventually... I always end up buying Nintys new console as soon as the next Zelda game is released.

This is a tricky one, I am in the reverse I have an xbox and I am considering getting a Cube (as well - not to replace the xbox). From what I can tell it comes down to a couple of factors.

1st - games - most important at the end of the day. What do you like to play. I loved Halo as I like FPS games. I dont get on with mario (hated it on N64) even thought I can see its a good game I just dont get much pleasure from it.

All the other considerations are just sweetners and all go in the favor of the xbox in my opinion - you'll have to decide how much you care about each of these as ita games that really count.

-linkable - cube is crap at this.
Xbox you can connect 4 box's with 4 tv's very for multiplay (up to 16 players) this is something I do a lot of this and its very cool but only if you have mates with a xbox. you can play online already as well if you have a PC.
Gamecube - will be doing the online soon - but not the linkable stuff.

Backups - this can be a big selling point for Xbox.
Gamecube - no backups = £40 a game nuff said.

DVD player - Xbox DVD player
Gamecube - no DVD player - use to make sense when there price difference was so big but now this is a real poor point on the game cube.

Divx player on Xbox - I use this and its excellent
Gamecube - no movie playback/homebrew software yet.

Xbox looks good next to you TV/video etc. - god I am going to get a kicking for this from the GC fanboys as a lot of folk hate the way a Xbox looks but its black and fits in with my Amp - a purple cube on top of my Black amp,DVD etc would look crap.

The only thing that it a bit arse about the Xbox is the controller which is very big - I got a Jap controller which is much better but was £30.

Play one if you can its the only real way to be happy - if you do get one DEFINETLY get it chipped/pre modded.

One thing that sways me towards the Xbox at the moment is that the price has just dropped, meaning that it wont be dropping any more in the near future.
Whereas I can see the GC having to drop in the coming months just to stay competetive being a games machine only. Id be gutted, if I bought a GC tommorrow and it dropped the next week.
Its happened to me before, Im not trying to let it happen again.

I think its going to have to be the Xbox, I do like FPS games and Halo looks the Dogs............

Gunner - your right but its all about your own personal prefs, but the Modding, linking, backup, DVD things are all facts not opinions. (at the moment)
