Time for Liz to dig deep?
I was thinking the other day that considering Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II has a fortune of around £40 billion could she not dip into her pocket and put a few quid back into the country that has given her and her family a lifestyle where they don't so much as have to wipe their own arses?
She's our queen, it's her country and we are her people...why can't she help out in a time of need?
Her silence speaks volumes.
Discuss.
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
Wont she have to pay her fair share of income tax once the new higher rate come into force?
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
I'm suer I read the opposite somewhere - the royals were trying to get more money to keep up with spiralling costs.
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
Can't we just kill the fuckers and loot the lot? How else we gonna pay for more single mums to stay at home and drink cider?
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
Personally I think the government should stop wasting our money before we start picking on individuals. There are so many ways we could cut spending before attacking individuals.
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
I'm broadly in favour of the monarchy, however I do think that given their vast wealth and resources they should be completely self sufficient.

Fuck that, lets storm the fucking Palace. Who's with me? While we're at it, we'll take over production of the Organic Biscuits that jug earred fucker knocks out and drop the price so everyone can enjoy them.
I reckon a few Dukes could do with a good beheading too, Devonshire and Westminster are two we should start with, the greedy land owning fuckers.

I think we should make a list here ready for the revolution and gather as much info as possible so we know who's doors to knock on:
My nominations are:
The Royals
Jeffy archer
Lord/Lady anyone
Ant & Dec - sure they couldn't put up much fight
BBK - as it's my list why not
Sure I could think of more

Piers Morgan
Molgens Tholstrup
Tania Bryer....basically we get a recent copy of "celeb" shitrag magazine like Hello or OK and use it as a hit list to hunt down the plethora of fucking chinless wonders who think that because they turn up to the opening of a fridge and a few free glasses of bubbly that they are worthy of respect. Our criteria should be "People who have lots of money for doing very little".

can't we just kill all the single mums that stay at home and drink cider? we'd get back a lot more in way of re-usable housing for all the illegal immigrants that way.

I think this is about right. When they have so much money, why the hell should my tax go to them as well?
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
The fecking Queen should get a job, bloody scrounging GIT
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
The royal family isn't that rich from a hard cash perspective. Their wealth is tied up in land, buildings, valuable collectables (eg. crown jewels) etc. So even if we could tax them we wouldn't get that much.
Plus the royal family actually generates more money for this country via the tourism trade than it costs us to keep them. If they wanted to be self sufficient they would just create a royal family 'brand' and take a percentage of every single item sold in there name. They'd rake it in then...

Rubbish. I'm sick of hearing that argument. Tourists don't come here to see the royal family, because they never get to see them. Tourists come to see the sights, as they do when they visit any other historical city, such as Paris or Rome. Neither Italy or France have a monarch and it doesn't seem to have harmed their tourist trade.

I was thanking him for the first bit.
You're right, the buidlings are the attraction and we could always use some look-a-likes to show their faces at the windows.

Or cardboard cutouts rigged to move about a la 'Home Alone'.........With a Mike Yarwood voice over.
Re: Time for Liz to dig deep?
I believe in maintaining the monarchy for the following reasons. The Queen is the ideal head of State, someone untainted by corruption and politics and someone who projects to the rest of the world a very real and tangible British identity.
The Queen represents continuity, so regardless of which firm is in power she will always be there. And through her weekly meetings with the PM she can share discussions and advice given to former leaders.
Throwing in a Royal is usual a good sweetner for any business deal. Taking Prince Charles to Oman or Saudi along with a delegation of BAE executives is usually a good idea if you want them to buy your obsolete jets. The flipside is that Royal patronage of a charity is usually a sign of quality, having a Royal on the board of trustees is a great confidence booster.
I think we have it almost right in this country in that it is the people, through Parliment who make the laws. However I would not be averse to having less pomp and splendour so that they are more similiar to the Dutch and Scandavian Royal families i.e. they work for a living and are a little more approachable.

Bollocks. They get to see if the queen's in buck palace by whether the standard is flying and the attraction is that you *might* see the queen if you're lucky (even though it'll never happen). It's part of what makes us stand out from the likes of France and Italy. It's not like people come to England for the weather like they do in those places.
Our entire monarchy costs us about 60-odd pence a year. The Italian president alone costs nearly twice that... value for money? Most Definately!
