Champions League all-star team

ENGLAND skipper DAVID BECKHAM and his Manchester United team-mate RYAN GIGGS have been named in an all-star team to celebrate 10 years of the Champions League.

Ex-United keeper Peter Schmeichel and Chelsea's Marcel Desailly, a three-time winner with AC Milan, are also included. The team, selected by UEFA's technical committee, is:

Peter Schmeichel (Man Utd), Mauro Tassotti (AC Milan), Marcel Desailly (AC Milan), Franco Baresi (AC Milan), Paolo Maldini (AC Milan), David Beckham (Man Utd), Frank Rijkaard (AC Milan), Zinedine Zidane (Juventus and Real Madrid), Ryan Giggs (Man Utd), Marco van Basten (AC Milan), Raul (Real Madrid).


No doubt there's going to be some disagreement over this list... I mean Tassotti instead of Gary Neville??? and what about the subs bench?? David May has got to be there - to celebrate if nothing else.

It is a crime that none of the Ajax "total football" team are in that list.

That was when the Champions League was at its best IMO.

Also I would put Figo ahead of Giggs.
