Re: Electric bike advice...
I've got one mate, a Viking Advance E-bike. I'm getting on a bit and wanted a bit of a boost and it does the job well enough. It's 'ok' as far as build quality goes, but I imagine there is better ones out there. There's more powerful batteries out there as well, this is 24V-8AH but on the plus, it's Samsung cells which have a decent rep. I use it on the usual mix of flat and hilly areas and haven't really pushed the battery limit yet as I don't tend to do more than 20 miles a trip using a mix of pedal and battery, dependent on the territory. I also think at times, on a downhill run, it could really do with another gear or two but I guess that limit may be down to total power output having to be within some legal limits.. What is a plus for this bike to me is the place of the battery, it's on the downbar of the frame as opposed to behind the seat etc. I'd say that helps with balancing the weight more evenly and not many people have noticed it's actually a battery and not some drinking bottle.
Those battery's aren't cheap so if I'm parking up somewhere, I put the battery in a rucksack and take it with me.
Overall, I'm pleased I got it and use it often, feeling much less tired, sweaty or stressed when I get where I am going.
Edit - With this bike, you have to turn the pedals for the battery to kick in, it's not a throttle type where you can idle your feet on the pedals.
Re: Electric bike advice...
Nice info mate thanks.
Just googled that bike, it seems to be between £750- £850 so it's in my budget, i'm not sure which type would suit me best though, the pedal assist like this one, or the throttle type?
Thanks again :)

Just seen an ad on tv for the Gtech eBike, is there anything that guy hasn't invented?
It seems a bit expensive at £1000 though.
