virgin media Tivo.. any good??
HI guys
after getting a recent virgin bill for £71 for a month ( xl tv, slowest broadband they have and a phone line we never use) I rang to complain and cancel, as the original deal was 3 for £30, and we havent changed anything apart from their free updrages..
anyway, the lovely indian gentleman, offered me their big bang bundle.
100mb internet, we can keep the xl tv channels, and now get a superhub2, and a tivo box.
just wondered what the benefits of tivo are from the people who use it, rather than find the virgin adverts telling me how woderful their product is..
and also, if tivo is downstairs, can you still use a v+ box upstairs?
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
They will let you keep the v+ upstairs. You would need a superhub anyway for tivo. No real benefits on tivo except you can record 2 channels at once compared to just one. Also tivo is very slow and unresponsive compared to any of their other boxes.
They are just rolling out double speed on internet, so you either just have been upped or just about too.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
Unfortunately the Virgin software really screws with the very best PVR available, ONLY their version available in the UK, still better than most though.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
I rang up to cancel the other week, managed to get TiVo,V+ HD box & V HD box with XL tv
Evenings & weekends phone
100 MB broadband
£75 credit to bill
£66 per month

Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
I personally really like the Tivo box - much better then the shity freeview i use to buy (though i never purchased expensive ones).
Doesn't do anything AMAZING - but does everything you would want. Mobile app is horrid but can be useful if you cant find the remote and want to change the channel
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
I have tivo, never had sky plus but I think its a great system. does everything you need from a PVR.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
Not a big fan at all.
The HD quality is shocking compared to any other.
The difference on BBC HD1 compared to my VU box is massive

You don't "need" a superhub for Tivo as the Tivo has it's own built in cable modem. You may need to have broadband (which is provided via a s-hub) in order to have Tivo (not sure haven't looked at the packages page).
You can record 3 channels at once on VM Tivo. I'd agree the Tivo box can be slow.
They're not rolling out double speed on the Internet, they're increasing the speed. e.g Those on the 60Mb are going to 100Mb as opposed to 120Mb. Those on 100 are going up to 152.
For me, the Tivo is ok. It allows me to record a bunch of stuff when I need to. I don't really use any of the other features on it but the fwd/rwd/pause functions work as well as any other. Yes you can use your other boxes. I know someone who has 3 Tivo boxes in their home. I don't watch very much TV at all to be honest. Well, tell a lie. There are around 20 odd different TV shows that I'm actively watching but at the most, I watch one single episode per night so at a push, a hours TV per night.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
The original TiVo system in the UK was the first and always the best PVR, in the States they are available from several Manufacturers and all that I've heard is good. . . . The original Telewest TV Drive was OK and improving when VM took over and they screwed it up with just about every new firmware. I agree the current TiVo is slow, I don't have one any more but they likewise got most of the updates wrong.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
im not a massive watcher of lots of channels ( the XL is wasted really). I tend to download most things these days, and set things from sky arts or nat geo etc.
but the dropped my bill to a capped £45.99 per month, so I wasnt gonna say no to taking their offer.
as long as I can still use the V+, I might put it in the bedroom or something.
as for the superhub, can this be linked wirelessly to the hub2 downstairs to increase range for upstairs internet use??

Link it as in use it as a repeater? No.
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
link it as a kind of booster to the downstairs signal?
Re: virgin media Tivo.. any good??
I have had sky and the virgin Tivo box.I actually preferred the virgin box. These says i use Nzbdrone to record and stream all my tv content via old laptop. No need for sky or virgin apart from the footy tbh :)
