i use aTube catcher, it converts, downloads youtube vids, music editor, stream catcher, screen recorder & dvd/bluray maker.
just make sure you read all the install pages as it does offer some other stuff you may not want

Another shout for handbrake. I generally edit and render out of vegas pro but put it through handbrake to lower the file size without losing much quality if any. works as stand alone so getting it out to mp4 is there.
