Dental Warranties?

Hey,

I had a crown fitted to a tooth about 18 months ago. I was never happy with the work, the dentist appeared to get the size wrong from the moulding and smoothed most of it down!
It was fine, although I was convinced it had a hole in it, but recently it has felt loose. At the weekend the thing broke off and little bits still continue to break away..

How long should it last? Should the practice replace this for free (with a different dentist) or should I use my Bupa and go elsewhere?

I am in no pain with it, the tooth originally broke around an existing filling. I could probably just live with it, but if I do not get it looked at then the filling might come loose and then pain city will be visited.

A good practice should replace it for free but in reality getting them to admit it is down to poor work is very unlikely.

least that way you maybe be able to show it was ill fitting.

Yes I still have the pieces.
One thing that annoys me is that Dentists get paid to work in a sensitive area.
Undoubtedly it is a tough job, but you would think they would be able to get it right!

Considering it cost me £400 last time I am pretty pissed.
Under different circumstances, like I did not have to pay for it, then maybe it would not be such an issue.
Never did I think 'Oh, this crown might come off and I will have to get time off work to get it fixed' again and again..
Tuesday next week they have confirmed I can go in to get it looked at. Just hope I stay pain free until then..

I would go back to the dentist. I had some work done which broke about 12 months down the line.
I got replacement work done for free, no questions.
The price they charge you should get some kind of guarantee, as you would with any work.
It should at least be fit for purpose, and not break during normal activity.

I am going to call Bupa to see if they can 'lean' on them if required.
Hopefully it will just be a 'we will fix it no problem'. It is just the thought of going through it all again... They will have to put in a new filling again no doubt to clean it all etc...
