Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
Im looking to buy a new PC (seeing as Im too cackhanded/lazy to build my own one) and have been looking at a couple that dont seem too bad on fleabay. I can cope with most of the differences, but what would be the better gfx card setup to have out of these:
Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 1gb + Nvidia Physx + Nvidia Gforce7150 512mb + NForce 630i
or
ATi Radeon HD 4850 512mb
I know next to nothing about these thingymajigs but my initial thought was definately the first as theres more dedicated memory, but Im worried that having more than 1 card may cause driver issues?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
the 4850 would be the zonda the 9500 would be a moped..
that is simple eh...
min geforce card today would be an 8800 series...
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
Stick in a Nvidia 280 if you got the money as its got built in physix engine (8800 upwards)
if money scarce get the 250 or the ATi equivalant
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
Balls, looks likes its back to the drawing board for me then. I was looking at something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Quad-Cor...3A1|240%3A1308
Which looked to be a bit decent for around £500-£600, think I might need to have a rethink...
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
m8 thats a good board, chip mem etc just a crap gfx card...
are you able to build your own or is that beyond you..
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
Think it would probably be beyond me. Ive only ever swapped out a hdd or dvd drive and dont think I could build my own - not sure if I would want to risk it..
Although I suppose I could have a bash by just buying those components seperately and plumping for a different gfx card... or as a last resort, could even ask the ebayer to shove a different one in (depending on cost, as he/she custom builds them..)
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
lets be fair here..a pc has always been a modular thing...
only diff is the old days it was setting up jumpers for voltage and bus speeds etc..
nowadays its slap it in a case , plug it all in , switch it on and let the bios sort it out.
piece of piss m8.
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
Cheers guys - been looking around again and looking at dual card setups. Is there much difference between these:
512MB GEFORCE 9800GTX+ PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT (x2)
and
1024MB GEFORCE 9800GT PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT (x2)
Obviously the second has more memory, but is actually cheaper that the GTX - would there be a noticable difference between the two?
Definately looking at either taking the plump and bulding it, or just getting someone to build a custom one for me - www.pcspecialist.co.uk seems quite reasonable..
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
gtx about 15% - 20% better but double for 2 cards...
i think you would be better getting one gtx 280 than 2 of anythin else m8....
a single GTX 280 beat two GeForce 9800 GTX cards running in SLI by a 9-percent margin.........

Agreed. If you have the money the GTX 280 is definitely a good buy.
Re: Looking to buy a new PC - advice needed on gfx cards..
The GTX280 takes it over my budget by the looks of it (I was pushing it with 2 cards!) - it adds over £100 to the price by swapping the 2 cards to the gtx280 (on that www.pcspecialist.co.uk site anyhoo)
Cheers for all the advice guys, need to keep looking round and having a think (Ill have a maximum of £800 to spend on a pc excluding monitor, and theres no way the missus will let me spend it again anytime soon so need to make sure I get the best I can!)
