CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
Hey Guys,
Two weeks ago I was developing my Android application in Android Studio and I saved my app and boom, computer turns off!
CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c - This takes between 30 seconds and two minutes.
My CPU is cooled by a Corsair H80i. I have disconnected and reconnected my CPU and cables. I have cleaned the CPU and applied new paste and reattached the cooler.
CPU temp = 74-84c.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped.
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
Does the heat sink feel hot, is the heat sink's fan working as it should does it speed up as the CPU get's hotter
EDIT:- Just looked up the cooler and it's a water cooler (I have never used one) is the water being pumped round the cooler and does the block feel hot is their still liquid in the cooler?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
Can you hear the pump working? I've got an Antec sealed liquid cooler, I have read they may not be as efficient as a fan but I don't push my system really. What temps should the processor run at?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
go back to a good heat sink & fan, never trusted the low end water coolers, seen a lot fail over the last year.
you may need a bigger Rad with extra fans or the CPU is starting to fail maybe
im using a Sapphire Vapor-x dual fan, Idle 20-22 under load 55-62
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
If it was working in the current setup and then it stopped working and you didn't change anything I'd say the pump is faulty. sounds like it just stopped pushing the liquid round the loop.
Could be worth checking it is still seated properly(but I doubt that would be the issue)
Can you test it with the original Air cooler just to rule out a faulty sensor?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
Have replaced a few water cooled system in the last couple of years for customers where they were sealed units that apparently never ran dry.
After replacing with a typical air cooled setup I opened said sealed unit to find it was bone dry.
This I found in 3 different systems . Honestly couldn't remember the make but it was a recognised brand.

Doesn't feel warm and the fan is pulling in tons of cold air.

Honestly, I'm not sure what it is meant to sound like.

I will look into that.

I can't find it atm :(

Probably Corsair. It's a sealed unit so can't open it without voiding the warranty.
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
My computer CPU is "overclocked" in the BIOS, so you would expect higher temperatures, but this is not always case.
Minimum is about 28ºC - however, when running a high load I'm looking at temperatures at 49ºC to about 55ºC.
When people state that overclocking causes a strain on components, I would agree with them. I go through at least one PSU a year. I've got a Cosair 1.3Kw PSU and replaced that about June last year, the new one is already making the dreaded scrapping noise.
You could try the following Microsoft Utlities from TechNet.
Process Explorer
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...rocessexplorer
Process Monitor
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...rnals/bb896645
Both programs should help you find whats causing the high temperature.

100% it's your pump!
Mine went just after Xmas, my tubes also had signs of cracking and I took pictures and RMA'd my H80i with Corsair and they replaced it with the new H80i GT.
The CPU Cooler attached to the CPU has a pump in it, if you put your finger on it gently, you can feel it.
Go here -
https://corsair.secure.force.com/home/home.jsp
Start a ticket and upload proof of purchase and they'll replace it. ;)
Just out of interest, what are you using to find your temperatures? Corsair Link?
In Corsair Link, your pump will be shown... probably 0 rpm.
Attachment 30713
I've a AMD FX-8350 that idles around 40°C using my H80i GT.

I did that two weeks ago bud and still have had no response
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
As I can't find my receipt, Corsair are refusing to fix their equipment so I have to buy new today. I have narrowed it down to the following:
My Case can fit four fans at the top - Fractal Design R2 but I'm looking to downsize to theiir Node 804 which can hold four 120/140mm.
So my short list is:
Corsair Hydro H100i v2 - 2x 120mm
= £95.99 inc [delivery for the 14th - Amazon Prime]. Maplins = £104.99
Corsair H110i v2 280mm rad and 2x 140mm fans - £95.94
Corsair hydro h110 gt £106.98
Thermaltake water 3.0 - 3x 120mm - £102.95 - £139.99 - Depending on RGB LEDS.
ID cooling Frostflow 240l - 2x 120mm - £79.99
Which would you choose and why?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
What CPU are you using? Watercooling isn't really necessary most of the time, I mean it sure does look pretty, but stick to air unless you're running an insane overclock.
Also, what case is it sitting in?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
As Ganty says don't bother and get a normal heat sink and fan

i7-3820 - from memory. Fractal Design R2 but I want to downsize next month.

But in theory it will be cooler?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
What are you doing on the PC that needs liquid cooling?
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
I've used Noctua fans and coolers for years and they can keep up with the best AOI's .

Having a Carsair pump also fail, i would also strongly suggest its that. Check the pumps rpm in bios. Mine was either at 0 or spinning slow.
If u bought it online youll have a purchase history you can use as proof. Alternatively, find someone who has and use there receipt as proof.
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
Water cooling your CPU is the equivalent of putting a spoiler on a Corsa ;-)

Haha
Re: CPU idling at 84c instead of 29c. Ideas?
I bought a Noctua NH-D15 Dual Fan - I hope you are right!
