No alt Os's on IPhone. A multitude of OS on android phones. Try one. Some are brilliant.
you are confusing os with launchers. One OS and a number of different launchers. I've been in android since 1.0 and I remember the likes of Nova etc on their first release. Go Launcher was nice in it's day too. There was that SPB 3D launcher too which was epic but would murder your battery.
The problems I usually hit are with the core o/s not being polished enough and there being fundamental bits that just don't work in the no nonsense way I need them to.
I find that iPhone does **most** of these things smoothly but gets boring when you get a new phone and pretty much everything is the same.
Anyway, I'm currently really enjoying my S8+ and it's not annoying me nearly as much as I expected it to, so things are looking promising.

Just received mine, the face ID works better than I expected, I thought I'd have to hold it up in front of my face but with the slightest tilt from waist height it's working reliably. Not got time to have a proper play yet but will over the weekend, this was an upgrade from an iPhone 6 so should be quite a leap for me and I hope to keep this one for at least another few years unless they add a killer feature in the meantime.

mine is due to be delivered between 230 and 330, looking forward to trying out this face ID, but i think like you have said i will struggle to mess around with it now but over the weekend will see how userfriendly it is

I don't like the new appswitcher, because there is no home button to double tap you have to pull the screen up and hold it to activate, you then can't just swipe away to close windows, you have to hold them so the red cross appears then tap those. Much longer process than before, although I guess the power of the device means you don't have to close the apps but I like to anyway. Wish they would introduce a kill all button, used to have a cydia tweak for that.
Also, when you insert the sim holder be sure to push it the whole way in. I found mine stuck out a bit presumably because of the waterproof seal so it needed some extra force to sit flush.

Exactly my attitude, I always have an iphone as my wife insists I have her old one every time she upgrades and it constantly boils my piss, want a mp3 as a ringtone on my Android simple just set it but try on the iphone fucking hoops downloading, converting, changing the file name etc WTF why and then won't use either micro USB or USB-C as a charger because they want to screw £30 more out of you if you need another lead or piss you off even more when they block the 3rd party lead you purchased for £2 with an update, I could go on and on they are total cunts building phones for masochists, Android has issues without doubt but they pail into insignificance compared to my experiences with the iphone.

Got mine today as well to kill apps just go to the apps switcher then hold onto one of the apps for a second and then red cross appears then just swipe them all up
Admittedly it's a bit of a longer process than before but swiping them up is easier than pressing the red cross

Last week one of the in laws finally saw light and got some Android phone, cant remember what. When I saw him a few days later he asked if I could help transfer his contacts from his old iPhone to the new one. Fuck you sprung to mind.
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
The soft reset procedure is a bit dumb, quickly press and release the volume up, then volume down then hold power button for 10 seconds until it reboots. Other than that I'm pretty impressed so far, had some really good results from the camera yesterday in portrait mode, low light at a bar.
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
so far so good, i do like the feature of the fact that notifications on any app are only shown with the app icon and the word notification until facial recognition takes place and then the message get show on the home screen. have got used to the lack of home button quite quickly. I think over the next couple of weeks i will become more comfortable with exiting an app/reachability mode/app closure option as its not the best. I do like the edge to edge screen as i went back to the 7plus to check something and it felt too big.
* i did not have reachability mode activated and i couldnt find it in settings, i then found out that you have to update to the latest IOS version (11.1) to see it in options/general/accessibility in order to be able to use it.
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
How is everyone getting on ? I’m considering a move back. My Samsung s8 plus is nice enough but some things are cack and are really starting to get on my wick. Again it’s os or the way core/common apps just don’t work well enough for me.
That and I have the opportunity of an iPhone X today...

still enjoying it, but i have found couple of things i find annoying:
1 - the way i grip the phone and go to lock it i seem to take a LOT of screenshots due to when i press on the lock button i also push down on the volume down button
2- apple pay is now a little bit fidgety now, so you can either hover the phone over a chip and pin machine, then double click the lock button, then use your face to complete payment, or you can double click before you pay to automatically then hover over the payment device and then point at your face to complete payment. Personally i preferred the finger print reader for making payments as it felt a lot more slick
i do like that apps are now moving away from pin numbers and passwords to facial recognition, and overall i like the size
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
Dithered too much and they sold out before I reserved one. It was only the 64gb when I would rather 256 so nothing lost really
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
I like it, feels like a solid device (feels much heavier than my 6) but still doesn't warrant the price tag in my opinion. Impressed with the camera, face ID works really well but I agree I liked Touch ID as it was a bit more versatile.
I have no complaints other than where the notch is now, there is less space for info in the top bar so several times now I have accidentally left it on do not disturb mode so missed a load of calls. Same goes for the VPN and battery percentage etc, you have to pull control centre down to see the status of all those things.
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
I just had my first play with one and I like it. It's a little smaller in the hand than I expected but it felt very solid.
The screen is absolutely gorgeous. I always thought my s8plus screen was beautiful but sat next to the iPhone on the same Web page it looked dull, even on max brightness.
I was a bit surprised by the big grey space that appeared under the keyboard. Does that get filled with anything?
I liked the swipe up for home and it all felt pretty slick in use.
Re: Apple iPhone keynte 2017 (iPhone 8 / iPhone X)
Just ordered a silver 256GB should be with me on Sunday.

It’s arrived. Set up. Annoyances gone. Happy. All is right with the world.

lol i did get a bumper case quite quickly, but literally the one that is like a band around the frame as i like the back to be exposed so stop dirt getting trapped at the back of the case, but thats just to stop the fucker sliding off everything, any kind of angle and it just starts to go lol so i was getting sick of chasing the phone as it fell off the sofa

Next time a shiny new Android comes out remember this feeling! Save your money and stick with what you know/like.

I have bought a clear rear shell for the time being (John Lewis branded) because I wanted to see the back. I usually go for the Apple official cases because although expensive they are the best quality. In the longer run I will probably end up with one of those. I haven’t seen a bumper since iPhone 4! Might take a look.

This is the case i bought, its cheap and the fact the rubber just follows around the frame and leaves the front and back exposed is a plus for me and the best thing is it stops the annoying chips and scratches from happening as they do with every smart phone:
