Re: installing a new hard drive without the old one in xbox one
I have now formatted the drive, I will update later.
This is the youtube vid i used because it was done in windows and he had all the files to download and all you needed to do was run a .bat file in CMD to do it, nice and easy.

Re: installing a new hard drive without the old one in xbox one
Update:- After powering it on with the eject and bind buttons pressed in and letting it do the offline update it would boot to a black screen, if you pressed the xbox button on the controller you could select turn off console or controller or select close and go back to a black screen?
So the console wasn't bricked or frozen it just wouldn't step on so I reformatted the drive and tried again, still no luck still the same black screen!
Restarted the console with the eject and bind buttons pressed (without the USB stick plugged in) and this time selected to reset to console and wipe everything, Console restarted and went through the setup process fine :D
Now I have a 1tb Xbox one S working, now it's downloading all of my games and apps :D :D :D
Re: installing a new hard drive without the old one in xbox one
yes all i did was format the drive in the pc to a normal ntfs 1 partition, i sonloaded the xbox osu1 file and put it onto a freshly formatted usb stick.
i put the drive into the xbox
i pressed eject and the joystick match button (on the left side of the console) and i then started the xbox, i kept the buttons pressed in for 10-15 seconds until i heard the shutdown button beep a second time.
the xbox then correctly formatted this new drive and installed the system files into each partition, this worked for me...
