I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Since the "Is DF dying?" thread I've been trying to think of ways we could spark some life in to some sections and I've been hit with a thunderbolt.
I think it's safe to assume the majority of us are tech heads ergo we also like to play games.
So...how about a "Retro High Score of the Week/Month" competition?
We all have computers capable of running emulators so I am thinking each week/month a game is selected from the years 1985 - 2000 and everyone submits their high score.
Obviously there will need to be rules which are open to discussion.
E.g:
Obviously no cheating.
Not necessary to complete the game, just get the highest score you can.
Screenshot being submitted as proof of score. Some sort of method to prove it's legit will also be needed, any suggestions?
Being allowed to submit a high score until the cut off time.
Following platforms will be considered, Nintendo SNES, Sega Megadrive, PC, MAME.
Instructions to obtain the game of the week/month will also be submitted along with a play-through video from Youtube (if one can be found).
As for prize? Maybe DF can give a weeks free VIP to the winner? Or you get special signature in your profile showing the Achievement?
That's also up for discussion.
So, any thoughts?
I've added the pole to see how many people will be genuinely interested to do this.
Over 20 people should be good enough but I would love to see closer to 50+. There is no limit on how many people can enter.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Sounds good, maybe we could expand this to include new games too?
Lots of us play online, why not play against each other online too?
I'd rather race against and shoot people off the forum than random people online :)
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
It's a nice idea mate but even in the heyday of DF when we had Pro Evo/Project Gotham tournaments it was a ball ache to get organised. Imagine now.
I play Battlefield 3 and also recently installed The Crew if you have them then I'd be happy to play.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Nice idea, we could also post our Xbox, PSN usernames etc. to have modern gaming too
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
I'd prefer we stick to PC based gaming because everyone can run the emulators and easily access the games. I sold all my PS3 games and don't have any next gen consoles.
Plus I think it's more appealing for people to have a 30 - 60 minute run through of Donkey Kong than 50 hours of Skyrim.
The key word here is retro.

Agreed it would be a ball ache to organise but clubs will soon be available on xbox live (already in preview) and perhaps setting up a DF club on that so people can see what other DF members are playing and join would help.
Assuming other members have an xbox of course.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Not used it myself but have seen websites where you upload an image and it examines the pixels or something and tells you if said image has been photoshopped.
Will weed out the cheaters ;-)

The COD4 league was good fun. Matches were played on a Sunday night as most people were avoiding some crap their Mrs was watching. With Battlefield 1 coming out I'd like to see a return of a league to cover that but doubt numbers would be high enough to get one team going let alone four.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
I only have a PS4 new gen but Xbone's are pretty cheap so i may have to invest in one.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
The COD4 League was very good fun, not sure how many of the team members are still on here though
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Anything online isn't retro imo.
Multiplayer meant 2 controllers on a 1st gen console or another 20p in an arcade machine! At best a four player y adapter on the PS1.

Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
This is actually a great idea, nice one.
Re: I've just had an idea that could be fun...
Great idea!
My only issue is that my 40" flast screen is much more likely to break when I throw my controller at it than my old CRT Tv when I was younger :P
