No mouse on original Black OPs menu screens

It's only recently I noticed cos it ages since I played the original Call of Duty Black Ops online, but when I launch the game, I have the usual blue and white menus options (Game settings, graphics, audio, whatever, you know which I mean) but for some reason my mouse doesn't appear and I therefore cannot click on any of the menus things to change the resolution, graphic settings, key bindings, or anything.

Steam Community support are a waste of time, and even Treyarch are not answering my question.

Anyone know of solution to this problem?
