What hardware would you recommend for video editing on the move? PC or Apple based?
Hey everyone, I've been doing bits of video editing on and off for a few years now, starting off with Avid media composer (mac), a few other bits inbetween (Sony Vegas) and now using Premiere pro (PC).
I'm quite comfortable with using the Adobe suite of software and have heard some good things regarding FCPX but some have likened it to iMovie as for being a less professional product and not being as flexible as Premiere.
That aside, i'm giving up the desktop PC at home for mobile and I know the obvious limitations with laptops for storage etc but the specs of highend mobile machines are that good that they can match some desktops.
I'm just looking for some advice from those in the know and that use them to what type and examples / prices if possible of a decent machine.
The one machine I've eye'd up is the very expensive £2000 Apple Macbook pro with Retina i7, 16gb Ram, 2GB Nvidia and 500GB SSD.
The only draw back I feel with getting a Mac is the lack of "distributable warez" that I would have access to where on the usual sites PC stuff is there with daily updates.
This is what pushes me further to getting a high end PC based laptop as I understand them that bit better and wouldn't like to be explaining the reasons for my mac crashing out due to "illegalness software's" at the Genius bar.
Hope someone can help me sort out my question. :wink2:

I'd never give up the sheer grunt of a dedicated home computer if you're doing serious graphics or video editing, even if it's a hackintosh or a pc.
Apple's what all the cool geeky kids use but you'll pay through the nose for a spec'd out MacBook 15" you're looking at 2149 which is a lot of cash for a laptop.
plenty of warez for the main Mac items.

I'd use a Macbook pro 15" but I know its gonna cost an arm and a leg. If there was a PC laptop of similar or higher spec I'd happily use that.
The reason I want / need a laptop based machine for editing is that I do not have the space for a desktop to be set up permanently. (I have been using the pantry in the kitchen as my "office" area and now that machine has been moved to my daughters bedroom)
Thanks

Shame you can't cluster Mac minis or nucs. I'm sure you can find a decent PC laptop of that spec for less but for some reason (not my industry) people do seem to use macs for creative type stuff.
Know anyone who is a student? Nice discounts for them.

The Lenovo Y50 - 70 IPS version looks decent enough.
