The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News http://www.rheena.com/images/cms/edit_small.png
Over the past week, hackers have made substantial progress in their efforts to hack Nintendo's 3DS handheld. While, yes, this will have negative consequences for things like piracy, I'd like to think you, dear reader, can see the more practical benefits of getting under the system's skin. Like getting around the 3DS' region locks for game cartridges. Hacker Neimod claims to have got "full control" of the 3DS via kernel mode, with one of the benefits of this being able to run a game from any region on any region's handheld. This is important to those importing games, as well as those who'd like to get a 3DS in a fancy colour scheme that's not yet available in their region.

Nintendo will of course fight moves like this every step of the way, but if you're a regular Joe who would only use this kind of thing to give Nintendo more money, I wouldn't let your conscience weigh you down too heavily if you're excited for this progress.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Any update on this? I've seen 3DS r4 style cards for sale so has it been cracked totally now?

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Nope, Still same old story..
Ds/Dsi games work, 3D ones dont.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
I have a DS lite and a 3DS, will the r4 from my Lite work on the 3DS?

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
there was a rumor of progress being made that was reliant on a save game exploit and as such it was kept hush hush as the hole could very easily be plugged.
There still isnt a great deal of software for the machine I want anyway, that I haven't bought already but I really hope they knock the fucking region lock on the head!

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Think i'll sell mine then, I'm happy with the DS lite for now, can't afford £35 a game for em.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Keep hold of it and just get the major games second hand if you see them cheap.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
I must be getting fucking eccentric in my old age as I have started insisting on buying games new, so its either brand new games or a pirate copy for me. To be fair though I am fucking loving just settling for DS games, now the releases have stopped I am finding I am going back to older games and actually giving them time. So far, 70 hours into Dragon Quest and 30 into Castlevania.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Got two 3ds consoles last year for the kids, keeping up with the new games at current prices is ridiculous. Went in game today and they want 39.99 for luigi mansion. That's Xbox prices FFS! as soon as they got them I started a games account at love film 10 quid a month for two games at a time. At them prices it would take 8 months of love film to recoup the price. In them 8 months they can have every new release in the post. They often only keep em for 6-8 weeks then send em back for something else.

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Some really good games announced recently for the 3DS. I haven't played consoles of any kind in a few years but really tempted by a 3DS XL now.
Shame there's no full hack yet as £30-40 a game is ridiculous!

Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
Seems odd diff mem card for each game and no menus
time will tell I guess, certainly looks promising though
-
Re: The 3DS Is Being Hacked, And Why This Is Good News
no menu system is pretty standard for early console hacks, and with games being 1 to 4gigabyte in size, we arnt going to see SD cards of 60 games like we did on the DS anyway. Well, not for a while at least.
I wonder how game saves are handled.

I played Luigi's Mansion on my mate's 3DSXL. Seriously considering getting one for my little lad now...

looking good! A different card for each game isn't a dealbreaker for me, as they are cheap enough anyway
Would'nt mind a handjob off the woman doing the demo mind.

Great news if it's legit, when's it out, who's selling it and how much? Guessing it won't be cheap. They will probably try to cash in before the copies come out
