Re: What are you reading?
we can't really post links to the books in this bit of the forum m8 unless they are free or the links are to buy the books, the best I can do on this part of the forum is post the link to the post in the VIP section. there is all of Karin Slaughter books along with an order they should be read in so it doesnt spoil the arc of the storys and a couple of short stories inc Martin Misunderstood.

Re: What are you reading?
I've finished Alison Wonderland by Helen Smith on wednesday, it wasnt anything to crow about but it wasnt bad either. it kinda felt like the author rambled for about 80 pages trying to end the book which she sort of managed but only just.
I've got something like 10% left of Just Bitten by Stephen Leather for when I go to bed tonight and I would recommend it to anyone, decent pace throughout and an unusual take on an over used topic, if youve read midnight and nightfall you know the sort of style but without Jack Nightingale
When I've finished that tonight I've got One Shot by Lee Child lined up which is 9th in the Jack Reacher series although if the other 8 have been anything to go by I'll be recommending this one as well lol
Re: What are you reading?
One shot's a good read, same as all the others!
Re: What are you reading?
could'nt agree more, I've been working my way through the Jack Reacher series for the past few months (I try to limit myself to 1 or 2 books a month or I'd have non left lol) I have read one of his brothers books called Even by Andrew Grant and while its no Jack Reacher its not far off.
Re: What are you reading?
This is a great thread.
I finished both Jermy Dunn book recommend by casio this week. (got em from the library in the end !) Very enjoyable and similar to Len Deighton. The main subject Paul Dark seems to be indestructible in the face of death in a James Bond like way and always gets his leg over twice in each book.
The third book is due out soon.
Going for Even by Andrew Grant as mentioned above next.
Re: What are you reading?
I finished One Shot about an hour ago and I can't believe it ended with the snap of the fingers, the story was in full flow then in a third of a page it finished with no warning.
I'm thinking of reading Freedom by Daniel Suarez next, I read Daemon which is the first book in the series about a fortnight ago and really enjoyed it so fingers crossed for this one :)
Re: What are you reading?
Finished Swan Song now and it was bloody great! Better than The Passage but not quite as good as The Stand (imho of course!)
Next in my Post Apocolyptic readathon is The Road...
Re: What are you reading?
I made the mistake of seeing the film before I read the book and it really ruined the book. (it was a crap film too lol) once you've read The Road have a look at Daemon and Freedom both by Daniel Suarez they're sort of a web 2.0 apocalyptic/ post apocalyptic series that I think is ripe for a big screen outing
Re: What are you reading?
I haven't seen the film so I'm OK on that front! I'll look out for the other two books, cheers ;)
Re: What are you reading?
I read Andrew Grant's book Event in two days.
Now the back story is Andrew Grant is apparently Lee Child's (aka Jim Grant) brother.
My money is on this is a Lee Child spin off written by him.
Its a Jack Reacher novel with a different name and this time navy background everything else is the same.
Strong hero with a can do anything attitude and gets a shag too.
Child's writing is unique in style and is apparent in this book.
Its also worth noting that last year they tried two Lee Child Books in the same year which apparently didn't work well.
The final paragraph of Event leads to a next book is exactly the same trick Child pulled for his double book last year.
Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the book and will read the next but don't buy the brother as the author.
Re: What are you reading?
I thought the same, I thought that the first book was just too good for a new author. If it is his brothers work they have a cracker of a talent for story telling in that family. I will say though the way it ended annoyed the snot out of me because I didnt have the next book to go it so it felt unfinished.
Thinking about it I think theres another author -Noah Boyd, his books have almost the same sort of story architecture, -lone hero does whats right not whats legal. Although his books have a much stronger american feel which is down to the author being both an american and an ex-FBI agent.
Re: What are you reading?
Couldnt agree more the first thing I read when I got my kindle was Don Quixote and I enjoyed it as much as I did when I was a kid,
the free kindle books are quite good if you check the top 100 you can get some that have been discounted down to 0.00 and they stay like it for a couple of days before they go back to being charged for, I 'buy' the free ones when I see them even if I dont download them to the kindle there and then, because once you buy it if it goes up in price in the future you dont have to pay for it. I've just checked and I've had 268 free books and they are virtually all from the top 100 free books list,
Re: What are you reading?
Just finished The Infidel by Bob Shepherd.
wasn't a fan of his first book the circuit but the infidel has been a rip roaring read in two sittings.
If you like Chris Ryan or Andy McNab this ones for you.
Next one on the hunt for the new Chris Ryan killing for the company which can out the other day.
Re: What are you reading?
I just finished the second of the Pretty little liars series by Sara Sheppard, its not my normal kind of book but I've watched almost 2 series of the tv show and I needed to know who was secretly A. I will say the 2 i've read have been better than the twilight saga but if i'm honest thats not saying much, seeing how im not the target demographic that either of the books are aimed at.
Re: What are you reading?
Finished The Road. I must have enjoyed it because I've read it in a week!
Reading Stephen Kings Full Dark, No Stars now mainly because I've had it on my Kindle for ages. After that its Daemon as recommended previously by Casio ;)
Re: What are you reading?
I literally didnt do anything at work today thanks to the wind so other than the 7 calls I had to explain the problems we were having and reshedule I sat and read all day, from 7am this morning till 6pm and I was paid for it lol it did mean I finished book 3 and then also three quarters of book 4 of the Pretty Little Liars series (theres nine in the series so if it stays windy I could finish them all by friday lol) while im now in the know about who A is, I'm more suprised by the books. I thought they would be passable at best but the writing style is well composed and the plot is woven well into the arc of the story, some parts are down right stupid like 16yrold girls acting like 30yrolds but on the whole I'm glad ive read them
I wouldnt say ignor Full dark, no stars lol but, if you're lost for something light and entertaining to read, there is worse out there than these
Re: What are you reading?
