The only issue I can see is that gargantuan choice of machines, Just De'longhi have something like 70 models with weird combinations of letters and numbers and no clear indication of which is better than which (aside from using price as a guide). I'm looking to spend around £500 and don't care about milk frothing options, just a good espresso or lungo. I've narrowed it down to a Krups EA8150 or DeLonghi ECAM 23.420
I came so close to buying bean to cup machines a few times but something always stopped me. My mate has delonghi but I don't know which model. When I looked it up it was about £350. He loves it but I don't like the small reservoir they all seem to have. I wish they could be mains water powered.
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.

The missus has skimmed and my 3 year old has full fat and I would normally have semi but don't want 3 bottles in the fridge so I usually use the full fat in coffee if I'm honest. I'm not sure what to do about the frother. If I can find the receipt I will take it back.

The difference with these is that there is no heating element (no more burnt milk spots), instead the base contains an induction ring which heats the entire jug evenly. The results are night and day differnt, much warmer milk, more froth and very easy to clean. Just remove the jug and rinse with cold water, unlike the Nespresso one which I always had to wipe with a towel to avoid milk deposit build ups.

Ooh I like the removable jug !

Have bought one of these today in Lakeland and returned the one that fires lids off to the range. Just tried it and it was a bit noisy but the results were very good.

Yup, it is a bit noisy and there is an after-fan to cool the induction unit down after you've frothed the milk. However after a day or two you 'allow it' for the excellent job it does.
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
has anyone got any experience with cheaper end grinders? My wife bought me a 'hero' branded one a while back and it's basically a simplified food blender. To be honest its a waste of money as I could (and occasionally did) grind beans in the normal blender when I was feeling too lazy to use the burr hand grinder.
From browsing the online shops here in China, there appears to be 3 different types, Super expensive moterised versions of my burr hand grinder, cheapo ones like my Hero and an inbetweener which seems to have some kind of lower profile burr style teeth. These ones can be found for about 30 quid here, compared to about 12 for my hero POS, or about 60 for a bottom end burr grinder.
edit:
here's a link to one of the mid price ones, also hero branded

Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
Having been immersed in the world of bean to cup machines for a week, I've also discovered another category of grinder with 100% ceramic. Apparently it doesn't heat up as much as steel ones which should mean less burning of the beans. It all sounds like nonsense to me, the beans are roasted so how much more of an effect can there be on taste?
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
My hand grinder is ceramic, but I think its getting worn down as it seems to take fucking forever to grind and doesnt seem as...grindy anymore.
I have heard that one of the reasons a food blender style device is bad due to heat, as well as other issues.
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
I use the Mrs ninja blender thing. It obliterates it in about 2 seconds so don't think heat is an issue, it doesn't even feel slightly warm but I know what you are saying about some of them that take literally 30 seconds to grind.
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
I dont get it. What's the use of grinders and all that jazz when u can buy perfecfly good ground coffee?
I understand coffee snobbery but it seems like a step that's pointless.

You can and I do, personally the ninja blender thingy is used for those occasions when I get home from the shop to discover I picked up beans instead of ground ;-)
Happens at least every 3 months pmsl
Although they do claim that the second it is ground it starts to lose its aroma/flavour at quite a fast pace. They also recommend freezing beans/grounds to reduce this but I cant be arsed going too far with it.
Coffee doesn't really hang around for long at mine.
Re: Hardcore Coffee Drinkers Please help.
Fresh ground coffee is better than pre ground - I used to think it was just bullshit but it does make a difference also with your own grinder you can dial in the grind to your machine.
As for freezing beans that is bullshit.

Ever since I joined this forum I have been disgusted by your avatar. Not because I am shy of a bit of porn or seeing spunk in a whores mouth... but honestly I am convinced that is my sister in law. Seriously. Spitting image (poor choice of words).
Anyway. As for coffee yes I do notice a difference with grinding being better, I just cant be arsed with the hassle, especially with juggling children, getting breakfast sorted etc. Just having a coffee is a luxury but I am time limited. Yes of course I would love to be able to grind every day but fuck that. However as said above you can get very nice pre-ground beans and for now I am happy with that.

I just weigh out and bung 18 grams of beans into my grinder and it spits out perfect ground coffee for my machine no hassle involved and takes very little time.
Did get fucked off with hand grinding so upgraded to a Baratza Encore grinder got fucked off with that being inconsistent so have upgraded to a Mazzer Super Jolly which is is totally consistent and grinds in no time.
As for your sister in law, unfortunately I do not still have the video or I would send it over...
