cleaning the dust out of your PC
I know there are countless topics on this on the web but i wanted to know what you all do to get rid of dust build up inside of your towers?
compressed air? compressor? vacuum? etc
I will be doing mine for the first time in a few months (once a year) so looking to see which is the safest way of doing it....
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Just hoover it .but make sure it's plugged in so it earthed
And you stop the fans from spinning
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Yeah I just hoover them too, I hoover the outsides first to clear all the vents etc and then open up and hoover inside, my thinking is not to drag more shite inside.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I hoover, compressed air often isn't strong enough and it doesn't deal with removing the dust, just moving it.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
i use a pastry brush & can of air then hoover bottom of the case
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Just bin it and get another one when it's so dusty it impares performance. Just like ur Doris.

Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I remember a story of Guy who hoovered up all the jumpers.
So try and avoid that lol
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I wouldn't go any where near the inside of a PC with a hoover. Compressed air and a soft paint brush for the insides.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Have replaced many a motherboard after the user decided to hoover it....
Can of air and take apart if you need to.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Compressed air and brushes here. Then hoover the floor.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I'm not talking about using an upright cleaner .lol
Hoover do no damage if you stop the fans spinning

Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I used to maintain PC's that were used on building sites. Saw some that had so much dust/dirt inside blocking all vents/heatsinks so badly I couldn't believe they still worked.
All I ever used was cans of compressed air, normally after 30 seconds max I would have the insides shining like new.
We used to go through so many cans that I suggested a compressor could work out more economical but this never went forwards due to company politics.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
For me it was always the hoover and a soft brush but that was a thing of the past, I have now taken a leap into the future with all my PC's and now use the nice small fanless, solid state that is the Intel Nuc !! Problem solved.

My company laptop died in a similar manner. The last straw was at a flour mill. That stuff gets fucking everywhere.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
In all honesty, when I was an IT manager in a warehouse environment my guys took them outside, took the lid off and sprayed compressed air in them until the cans froze to their grubby fingers...
Not a spotless end result, but enough maintenance to extend the life of them.

Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
If you hold the can upside down, the air comes out as liquid - this is better for cleaning stubborn spots.
Not really recommended as it could cause thermal shock to components and can't turn it back on immediately afterwards as need to make sure everything has evaporated, but I used to do this all the time and never broke anything.
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
I remember in my first job working in an IT dept of a furniture manufacturer.
My boss used to physically dip hardware in this massive vat of cleaning liquid in one of the stores.
At first I thought he was mad but it was some solution used in the manufacture process that does not conduct electricity. Felt weird doing it but it brought everything up like new.
I still would never turn anything on till it had dried though..... I just couldn't do it
Re: cleaning the dust out of your PC
Get a better case.... Just opened mine up to sell one of my graphics cards in anticipation of the 1080ti launch and there was zero dust in my pc - none in the fan on the gpu none in the cpu fan etc etc.
Don't think I have opened it up since building April 2016. I do remove the filters every month or so and give them a quick vacuum off, they appear to work.
