From Bedrooms To Billions
Has anyone seen this yet? My mate told me about it last week and I just got round to watching it, it's brilliant.
If you have any interest in retro gaming you need to watch it. It's a documentary about the birth of the British game industry and how it evolved into what we have today. So many games were on that I know and loved, took me right back to when I got my Speccy as a kid. Very nostalgic.
Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
Hey,
What channel was it on? I tried the 'usual places' and it is not listed. Maybe it is on a catchup player or something?

Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
Sorry to bump an old thread but just watched this plus the matthew smith and david braben extras.
Wtf has happened to mat smith. My childhood has been influenced by his games and yet he looks like a homeless crack addict. Sorry for you dude.
Braben on the other hand seems to be doing just fine

Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
David Braben is smart as shit, he basically invented the procecdural generation we see today. I doubt No Man's Sky would exist today without his previous work.
Re: From Bedrooms To Billions

Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
Just started watching it, looks very interesting especially putting faces to names from my youth
Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
Just watched the second half of this. Very enjoyable from a nostalgia point of view. I feel really sorry for Matt Smith. I heard years ago that he had disappeared off the face of the planet and it's obviously painful for him to talk about the way the machine spat him out, as a teen suddenly with loads of money, which obviously funded whatever made him look like he looks now. What a sad waste of talent.
The last 30-40 mins from Playstation onwards is a bit wooly and not nearly as interesting as the characters in the industry had all but disappeared but the last 10 mins and the credits sequence are good. My missus got fed up with me naming every game that popped up on the screen.
Well worth a watch.
If anyone is wanting something else along the same lines, Micromen is a great docu-drama which is the acorn vs sinclair wars from around 1980 onwards.

Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
There is a guy on youtube that does a lot of good documentaries about the software houses and keyfigures - You have probably already seen some of the stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/user/elmyrdehory - The Peter Molyneux, imagine and a few of his other recent ones are a good watch.
Re: From Bedrooms To Billions
I want to see this but it's not complete on my newsgroup host. Anyone know of any other sources?
