Info Getting a new TV tomorrow. Need advice please.

Found Currys doing some good deals on an couple of TV's and I'm unsure which one to go for. I got the usual Sales pitch and am now in 2 minds.

Originally going for the 70" Samsung on offer here -

Then the 'Know How' expert said I would be better off getting the slightly smaller screen and better picture quality of this 65" Sony Bravia.
    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-...43306-pdt.html

Buying a TV these days is like a minefield, but I can see there is a difference between the 2. Especially with fast motion. The 70" suffered during the comparison.

The Sony is fully Android, but the Samsung is there own interface. Not that thats too much of an issue as I have a Firestick.

Which one would you guys go for?

Oh - AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL DF MEMBERS OLD & NEW!

I would put some fast action movie on a USB and get down Curry's and see if they let you compare. I find with TVs and can come down to personal preference.

I tend to stick with Samsung for most things these days because I find them better and more reliable than most other makes, and they consistently come out on top in the Which? reports. Haven't had experience of Android TV's but have heard very good reports from friends who are very impressed with them. Also check out the sound. TV's in this price range should have decent sound, unlike the baseless sound you get from sub £500 TV's. If you intend adding a sound bar or a home cinema sound system then that isn't a problem anyway. (">

Already have an LG Soundbar, so sound not an issue.

I just feel 70" is better than 65", but the missus is disagreeing... Size doesn't seem to matter with her (result!).

Admittedly, the difference in picture is better in the Sony, but this BS about Hz or PQI difference is confusing as hell!!

The Samsung 6000 series is their lower end quality sets, so I suspect the Sony could be better.

I would check our reviews at AVForums or Richer Sounds or similar before taking the plunge.

    I eventually settled for a Panasonic 58" 3D 4K (but I still enjoy 3D) reviewed here: http://digital-forums.com/showthread...ight=panasonic

The samsung 6000 series you have listed is the entry level Samsung, If you're on a budget look at models 6400 upwards and investigate which panels are shared with the higher series. Something in the 7000 series would be a good mid tier TV.

    Wouldn't touch a Samsung personally...

6000 is entry level so I'd swerve it more so.

Wait until CES in January and see whats what then - some of the older models could well drop in price a lot.

Just recently got me a 55" LG OLED which is quality / reckon it is better than the Sony ZD9 range which are pretty good - you would need to up the budget though for a 65" OLED model.

Actually just re read the op and you were not even looking at the Sony ZD9 range although you also never put up what your budget is at all maybe that would help to advise you?

Also you said you was getting one tomorrow which was yesterday or something so all this is pointless anyway :o)

    What did you get?

Yesterday came and went. Still looking and potentially can wait til the new year. Budget is probably maxed at £1,300.

Hence why I was looking in the sales for Curry's.

Cannot warrant spending £2k on a TV. Missus would go mental. Hard a tough time convincing her £1,300 was reasonable!

If you can hold out I would wait until CES has been in January - all the new tech will be revealed.

There are new LG oled tv's for 2017 also Sony are releasing oled tv's next year (I think using LG panels) also LG are at some point rolling out their oled printing plants which should considerably reduce the price of larger oled panels - think that will be more likely 2018 though.

Worth waiting until the end of January I reckon if budget is going to be an issue - price I paid for mine keeps dropping.

Could you stretch to £1600? I think you can get John Lewis or Richer Sounds down to that for a LGOLED55b6V with a 5 year warranty with some price matching. Would be a lot smaller screen size than you are looking at tho...

I have the Sony 65" 8599 and it is superb. HDR looks amazing (Samsung 8500 4K player + PS4).

As it is Android, I also have KODI on there which makes things nice and simple with regards TV Series and Movies.
Yes, OLED is better, but more expensive and you will have to drop screen size and add more money - 2 things that sound like you don't really want to do.

Yep, has the Play Store so just grab Kodi from there and job done - it really is that easy. Got rid of my 4K Android box after this.

@ Bilbo - you have my previous model TV - loved its picture but wanted HDR. Android was a bonus.

    Thanks to crazyal
