Default Chinese Phones Thread - 2017

I know we have had these threads in the past but in the Mobile Handset market things obviously change fast.

I am after buying a new budget / mid Chinese handset as I have been very happy with these in the past.

I have had Elephone handsets and been very happy although mine now getting a little dated . Any suggestions appreciated.

Have been looking at the Doogee range, perhaps the F7 or maybe the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro or 4, then I see another and another.

So what Chinese phones are you using, have tried, seen, recommend or advise I avoid.

What's important to me. Fuck all really. I get excited for a month then use it for calls and texts plus occasionally calling some cunt out on FB.
I suppose battery life is important to me.

5.5" screen is my max as will be in jeans pockets.

It is a minefield when you start googling. Too much choice to be fair.

For a moment I got really excited by a dual screen mobile called the Yotaphone 2 which uses 2 displays one being eink and saves a tonne of battery life. Was waiting for the Yotaphone 3 but have given up.
Really like the idea of dual screens. Use the eink display when you don't give a toss about 16 million colours and save over 90% battery life. Turn the phone over to activate the full colour display to see your porn in its full colour glory.

    Over to you :-)

    Cheers

I got a xiaomi 5s plus a month or so ago, from watching reviews of similarly priced phones (china prices) it seemed to be pretty much the best for the buck and only really beaten by the oneplus3t which was quite a bit more pricey.

It cost me 2200 RMB, which is about 250 quid I think, the slightly smaller non plus is a touch cheaper and has the fingerprint scanner on the front which I'd prefer, but I think the camera is better on the plus.

On a similar note, has anyone bought a Chinese branded tablet recently? There's a few under 150 quid that have great spec that I'm tempted to get to replace my aging ipad3

Bought the Mrs a Teclast x98 3G I think, off the top of my head.
Works brilliant dual boot Windows 10 & Android 5.1 (or you can choose just to have win or android and have more free space)

Very well made and would use em again. Still fine after 18 months.

I got the Oneplus 3T from o2 on o2 Refresh. I went for the 128gb version that everywhere else was well over £500 - £600 mark.
Mine came to £450. Paid £89 upfront to bring my monthly payment for the phone down to £15 minus the tariff.

But the beauty of o2 Refresh is, the phone itself is 0% finance and if I pay the phone off tomorrow I can cancel the contract. So win win..

Now back to the phone... Its simply the best phone I have had by far... Only thing with it being dual sim is that the bluetooth in the car doesn't understand how to choose what sim to dial from. But there are apps on the play store that can do this and after shelling out £2.99 on one (Dual Sim Selector) it now works how I wanted it to work from the get go...

Just had the OTA update for Nougat and its running sweet.. Charge time from being flat is around 30 mins to 45 mins. With day to day usage it easily lasts all day and night Currently on 22%

Only had it for a couple of weeks but I really love this phone.

    Thanks to AD

I still swear by my Ulefone power. Battery is superb. Dual sim works perfectly. It's handled everything I've thrown at it without pause.
I even cracked the screen - dropped a screwdriver on it from the top of the stairs and it still carried on as normal with a big crack across the screen.

I want a reason to replace it. Just can't find one yet.

I bought the Ulefone Power a few months ago off eBay and had to send it back. Kept overheating on charge so much that the back cover of it warped. It also decided to power off saying there was no battery charge when moments previous it had like 30-40% then when you plugged it in to charge it'd say there was only like 8%.

I bought the Xiaomi Mi5s from Gearbest a couple of weeks ago.
Great phone and well worth the money. The fingerprint scanner is good unlike the Ulefone Power which was complete bobbins!
The MIUI rom takes a little getting used to, I've been on Cyanogen for most of my Android life so it's a fair bit different.
The only issues I have is the locale is set to China and there is no UK on the list of options even though it is supposed to be the Global Rom and notification sounds don't work. I managed to setup visual notifications after disabling the MIUI battery saver feature and going through each app listed under notifications and choosing the notification type I wanted.
I think I'll just wipe it at some point and put a different Rom on it.

    Thanks to AspectUK

I really like the look of this then read a string of really, really bad reviews in particularly about battery life and just other really buggy issues.

    I'm out !

In the end I ordered the Elephone M3.

Although I was prepared to spend more than I just did I liked the idea of a 21mp camera.

It is basically the elephone P9000 with 1gb less RAM but with a stonking sony camera/lens instead.

Will find out if it was a good buy in about a week :-)

I shortlisted the redmii pro but found a fair few poor reviews so didn't risk it.

It is a mine field to be honest with way too much choice and in reality I couldn't choose so panic bought lol

The other close second was the Oukitel K6000, this was purely as I liked the idea of a battery that lasts for 5 days which is its biggest selling point.

    Thanks to piggzy

I literally received my Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition last Thursday and I must say I am very impressed with it so far. I was previously using a Nexus 5 and this definitely feels like a big upgrade.

It's got a Snapdragon 650 Hexa Core processor and 3GB RAM so it feels very snappy to use. Also being the SE it comes with the extra 4G bands for use in the UK that many other models from China don't have.

It cost me £134, great phone for the money in my opinion although it took a couple of weeks to arrive.

Well my Elephone M3 finally arrived today after a customs delay. It happens.

Initial thoughts it charges as described... very quickly. 20 min charge gives 2 hours use and a 2 hour charge to full battery. Was actually a little quicker in reality.
Very smooth and for everything I tried so far there is no lag at all.

Android 6 out of the box. Camera is amazing for the money with 21MP and a lot of features etc

Battery seemed to drain quite quickly but then when I thought about it I just got a new toy so have been abusing it so in reality it is not draining fast at all.

One thing I did learn from this purchasing experience.
I like to use the 3 strikes and you're out rule and that is what I have just done with DHL.

I will never ever use DHL again, they are useless cunts to say the least.
I would estimate I have bought the best part of 50 items from china. Only 3 have been hit with customs and all were DHL. Now I know customs has nothing to do with the courier but there has to be something in DHL's practise/operation that attracts it. Do they have a bad name so are targeted, who knows.

I had to pay £19 customs fee. Fuck all and not bothered about it, but apart from the customs delay you have to keep phoning/nudging DHL all the time. e.g. Customs clears packed in online tracking. Sits there for 2 days. Phone DHL "OH will have someone look into it"
DHL's useless system and poor misinformation easily added 4 days to delivery timescale and nothing to do with customs. e.g. I paid customs Friday and it sat still for 2 more days until I phoned them and the package was in the wrong depot e.t.c

I rant but honestly pay £10 more for EML or EMS whatever it is called.

Will post some camera pics when I get the chance if anyone cares ;-)

    3 Thanks given to piggzy

    Hi Piggzy,

Will the dual SIM tray take 2 SIM cards and a micro SDcard as I bought the Elephone P9000 at Xmas but returned it when I found it was either 2 SIMS or single SIM and SDcard (as standard, i.e without having to cut the cards).
