STB Emu blocked

Hello all!
New to this "android box" thing but a quick learner. Although every time I think I know something I read something different. Bought my first box 3 /1/2 months ago for someone off Kijij. Went with him because he had posted a very frank and seemingly truthful discussion. Paid too much $$$! What I got resembled IPTV Crown TV. Which after 3 months I got the STB Emu Blocked Message. When I contacted my "Guy" he told me the same thing happened to his box. I would have to pay for him to reprogram my M96x again! Yes another $300! Started looking on YouTube for answers. Lots of content! That's an understatement! Lol. Bought STBEmu Pro off google Play. Bought a subscription from IPTV, sent my MAC address and waited for the URL Portal. Received a message still that my MAC address needs to be released by my provider! Didn't even know I had a provider. When I contacted my "guy" I was told that he was a Crown TV reseller. I'm sure what I paid for initially was a 90 day package that expired. He did give me a new MAC # but I have my doubts that it will work. He now wants another $300 for a year of Crown Express TV. No Way!
The question I have, and sorry for taking the long way is: once I try to find a new MAC I read that I should go back once I have the URL portal and change my MAC settings back to my original MAC Address.

True or false?

Any other suggestions would be helpful.
