    Default Foreign films thread.

Thought it might be nice to have a thread dedicated to foreign flicks. Nothing from Hollywood in here :-)

I often prefer the less fake films that some of these smaller and independent studios can make:

For me I prefer subtitles as I can't have the cheesy American dubbed voice overs.

    Anyway I will start with:

The Host : Very good offering from South Korea iirk. Great effects, a bit cheesy but funny and fun.

Martyrs : French film from my top 5 ever.. easy 10/10 for me. Please avoid the 2015 American remake at all costs. Garbage with no soul.

Night Watch : Fantastic, crazy Russian film. Sort of Blade on Meth. A must see.

Day Watch : Sequel to the above. Brilliant follow up imho.

High Tension aka Switchblade Romance : Another fucked up French film. Brutal but sort of arty with it.

Ichi The Killer : No words for this pmsl

Best leave some for you lot so what are your recommendations???

    Thanks to piggzy

Whilst I like foreign cinema I prefer the TV shows.

I love films like La Haine and Mesrine.

Watched this the other day. Not too shabby.

Got the bloke out of The Raid in it. While not quite on that level, it still has plenty of bone crunching scenes to make you wince!

A Serbian Film. Lots bitched about it but I quite enjoyed what it was trying to do.

Yes. A tough watch in places though. The Newborn Porn and the bit when it dawned on him in his drug induced stupor that he was actually sodomising his own son.

Not one I'll be watching when the in-laws pop round.

Another vote for Martyrs from me.

Really enjoyed Confessions - Japanese pyschological drama, Incendies which is just superb, The secret in their eyes, again, not the shit remake and I found Once Upon A Time in Anatolia to be a very well acted and intriguing film.

Best comedy I've seen in years and that everyone should watch is The Intouchables

Edit: I'll throw in Wild Tales too, really enjoyed this.

I watched Toni Erdmann at the Cinema last week. Quite moving and funny as fuck, which for a German film is saying something. A thumbs up from me.

Watched this last night and highly recommend it

    Train to Busan

You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

I find with Foreign cinema it's either really good or really shit. But to be honest I kind of like both.
There shit is usually just because it is ridiculous which I seems to have a certain charm... I think

For example Toni Ardmann above looks arty good from its trailer, seems clever with good acting.
I am assuming I will like Train to Busan for the other reason ;-)

The original 'ring' movies in Japanese were well better that the remakes.

In fact, a lot of odd 'vampire' films I learned from Johnathan Ross' Incredibly Strange Film Show. We're all pretty good, even if most of the time I had no idea what was going on. Bits of yellow paper to stop bouncing vamps...

Thought I'd drag up an old thread rather than starting a new one.

Watched The Invisible Guest last month and thought it was the best film I've seen this year. Great story, well acted. Available on Netflix or the usual places.

Yes the American remake of Martyrs was barely watchable.
The original made you feel uncomfortable, sick, confused and really on the edge of your seat. I felt like I could have watched the remake with a child who would have probably fallen asleep.
