    Rant SOS for the oldies...

So as some of you know my parents are old fuckers living in Spain. Since the change in satellite positions or whatever it was meant that Spain no longer could pick up UK free view with a sky box and dish, they now stream tv ('filmon' essentially) using a shite android box.

This eventually went tits and I had to send them another. An mXq box, which I updated apps on and added kodi and a repo with all the shit they would ever need. Eventually they fucked all that up and went back to the old box to simply use FilmOn.

As of the 28th April that's now fucked as well due to that spanners in the U.K. selling Fully Loaded boxes and bringing in a great new law.

Can anyone tell me what the best, the simplest, and most cost effective way for my to parents in their 80's who are now at an age where any 'menus', 'apps' and 'downloads' are beyond them, just to simply watch UK free view in Spain (costa dorada region, tarragona)???

I litterally don't have the patience, time or knowledge to keep giving them long distance 24 hour support for this.

    Any help much appreciated.

Other than a 3m sat dish you mean?

It's live TV that's the problem. If you could RSS all their favourite shows then they could watch them on Plex.

I think what you're asking for is impossible mate to be honest. Maybe they should move back.

I am actually thinking a fuck off dish on the roof.

Best and simplest option but it will be me fkin going over to do it.

They would never come back, and given half a chance I'd be out there and not coming back as well!

You better do something quick before they make you a new brother or sister ;-)

Fuck off massive dish would be my choice for oldies.. they simply cannot handle Android boxes in my experience.

DJ my folks live in portugal and im in the exact same position
Im in the process of buying them a zegemma h.2s and adding iptv for the rest of the uk tv channels.

Sad part is the box is £80 then the iptv is £80 for the year too so its going to be an expensive box
they have a 3m sat dish already.

    Pmsl! That's a great idea!

Problem is there are 'local adjuntament' restrictions on putting dishes on ur houses.

As above, for the cranky oldies sat was an easier and a more reliable system. Just to watch the codshit I don't watch TV as a result of.

I'd setup Kodi with an IPTV provider (add-on and live TV button) if their internet is up to it.
If you set up a couple of addons with different working user/passes to the same provider they'll have a backup or 2 incase the primary one goes down (while you point sentry at the server to find some more weak logins or pm some1 about that)

Plex is another option, which might be easier for them. It's a bit basic and has no epg for the telly but it's simplicity might be a plus for the rents as it's easy to setup and navigate.

MAG250 with a $50 yearly sub for full $ky Package. Works like a regular set top box and nothing they can fuck up.

    Thanks Hippie,

I know what ur saying but anything 'kodi' is already beyond them. Few years back my mum was able to tinker her way about the apps and menus etc. No amount of poor skype calls can help and I don't need the hassle.

STB setup is what I need. I have a dream box dm600hd somewhere. Anything for that that will be useful? Either sat or iptv. Also have the two android boxes to mess with.

I always use FilmOn when I'm away, has that stopped working now outside the UK ?

Would a legit solution like http://www.slingbox.com/en-GB at your house not give them what they want?

Anyone got an m3u file for U.K. Free view?

problem is when the streams in the m3u expire. I really need a set it and forget it solution.

From memory some players allow a URL for the m3u file..
So if anything changes you could just update the tinyurl or other url for them with the new m3u details without them needing to do anything.

Not ideal I know but might be worth a try ?!?!?!?

personally i got my mum and dad a Mag254 box and an IPTV subscription, the sub costs £75-80 per year and gives you access to all channels etc. (with HD), its not perfect and its not the cheapest solution, but it works, any problems have been solved by the sub seller (only 1 problem, change of MAC) and they like it, tried them with Plex and Kodi and they got nowhere fast!
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Ah yes mate. I meant to update this yesterday, but essentially thats what they have done. They have tapped up a local supplier (britsat.tv) that does their area, all the bars etc, who has been established for years. One of his mob came to see them to assess their situation, and hooked them up with an IPTV sub and box. Pretty sure they are using mag250's or whatever the latest is. It's a more user friendly set up, pre configured with a VPN and works out about a tenner a month for them. As you say not the cheapest, but if they are happy then thats fine by me. I can more than likley set it all up myself for next to nothing, but I CBA with the "support" after. They can bug this clown now.

My next concern now is their DSL supllier is jacking it in in the summer(Iberbanda)... Looks like they will need to acquire an uncapped 3g sub or a shitty sat broadband setup which are usually all capped. I will await that "disaster"!
