Default Remove Windows 8.1 admin password

One of the girls at work (not fit, no photos, just trying to help!) has asked me if i can get into her laptop as she has forgot her password What she has told me:

    It is an admin account
She no longer has access to the recovery email address
She *thinks* it is running W8.1

I have looked around the net and there are quite a few products claiming to remove the password, but does anyone have a go to product they know works?

If secure boot is enabled you may find it tricky, try the correct version of MSDaRT though and load locksmith once it boots.

If secure boot is disabled it should be fairly easy, pogostick should work for example.

I have had lots of success using ophcrack.
Burn to a CD, boot from the disc and wait. The password should appear like magic
    http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/download.php

If all else fails, you can always use Linux Mint Live CD to transfer all her files off & then just reinstall.

Not used ophcrack since vista but it's more for recovering passwords IIRC rather than removing them and so it is inefficient due to the time to bruteforce using the (rainbow?) tables. If you don't need the password then I'd look to simply reset or enable the inbuilt admin account.

IIRC 64-bit windows needs the pay for version (v2) but that is available if you look around. Not sure if this works on secure boot Win 8.1, I thought it didn't but may be wrong!! This may help:
    https://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/t...4-doesnt-work/

MSDaRT is the official Microsoft tool though which is why I suggested that as I'd think it would work with secure boot, it also has a file browser which would allow you to copy files off the HDD.

The reason I keep mentioning secure boot is it seems to have been enabled as default by most OEMs if the laptop shipped with Win 8 or newer. If it was original on Win 7 then it's probably not enabled or even in the BIOS as an option.

Im assuming the OP is looking for a quick fix hassle free. Would it be possible for you to upload a working MSDaRT.iso at some point mate as that would be a a useful tool for alot of us.

    Thanks to josweet

I'm not sure if its copyrighted so don't want to take the chance and upload but you will find it easy enough on the usual sites You can create your own but it takes a while to do so best to get the precooked ISOs. There is a different version for Win8/8.1 so be sure to get the right one.

Bah! Got round to doing this today and i find the file system is UEFI - so Hirens boot cd will not work.

Is there another easy way to reset/remove the windows password on this file system?

    ta!

Have you looked for MSDaRT? It isn't usually hard to find, download the correct version for your OS, burn, boot and it should sort you out.

OK, i used MSDart software as advised and was unable to remove the admin password, but i was able to create another Admin account and access all users docs that way - so a sort of win!
