We had a portable AC machine I bought about 12 years ago from B&Q for around £200 it was great until it started to smell funny.
the air would come out stinking like stagnant water.
i drained it several times and stripped it down and gave it a thorough clean which made no difference.
So now we just rely on good old fans.
I would buy a new AC unit tomorrow but my missus won't pay for it they are too big and bulky and when left going they are quite noisy. (Or so she says)
secretly I might out the heating on just to persuade her

Got 2 of the b&q ones in my office which are probably 12 years old and work a treat still. Would be too noisy for a bedroom though
I find the "white" noise of a fan really massively helps me sleep. Suffer from insomnia and have been known in winter to go in the spare room, wrap up and chuck the fan on just so I can sleep.
If we sleep with the fan on in the room I am guaranteed to wake up with a banging headache.
For some reason if I wake to noise I'm fucked for the day.
to be fair the b&q AC was really bloody good at dropping the temp in the house.
If I was going to buy one now I would probably head to b&q again.

weaklings
spent three weeks in india. 40 degrees at night with a ceiling fan. electricity would randomly go off at night and then walk to the local pylon. pull out the huge fuse and rewire it all the while making sure not to get 60,000 volt shock
don't know how lucky you are.

Hi I've got an Amcor unit I really reccommend it. Whack it on for about an hour before bed cools the room beautifully. Only use it about 6 times a year so it will probably last forever.
There's a timer on the remote so you can fall asleep.
I had a bricked up chimney breast I drilled into it for the hose, it's a better solution than the window kits.
I've got these linings on my curtains too https://www.moondreamwebstore.co.uk/thermal-curtain/summer-thermal-curtain/summer-thermal-lining/refresh-by-moondream--141.html

Might be worth taking a punt on something like this?
