Default Help with Macbook problem !!

Been given an old MacBook Pro A1150 (2006 model)

It has no battery, but a quick google showed me I can get a replacement for £16 delivered so thought I would order one and let the kids use it.

However, it does not boot up when connected to mains. It has a green light on the charger plug and when I press the power button it flashes for a second but nothing more, I can hear a faint noise inside, but nothing spins up, no display etc as if dead. Don't really wanna buy a battery for nothing so wondered if there is anything anyone suggests trying before I bin it.

Or is there a way to determine the fault so I can see if it is a cheap fix ?? Not played around with Apple bollox for ages.

    Cheers all

google pram reset, involves holding ctrl opt p and r when you press the power button from memory but does vary a bit between some units.

hold it all together then release the power button and keep holding the rest. you will hopefully hear the mac 'chime'

Thanks just tried that but nothing. Apart from the LED flicker when pressing the power button it seems dead :-(

Look at resetting the SMC too, on the macbook it's basically disconnecting power and discharging by holding power IIRC but check it first. If you have nothing then could be bad RAM or just dead, in PC terms it's failing to POST by the sound of it.

Thanks. Yeah POST equivalent failing is the impressions I get.

As usual I cant find my f$%king pc toolkit. No doubt an excuse to buy another one. I keep leaving round peoples houses or in the car.

Thanks guys. Will see how I get on. If it does need repairing e.g. my buying a new part and doing it myself, is this cost effective on a 10 year old model or is it bin bound?? Not dabbled with Apple for about that many years.

According to Apple it's "sad" to run a computer more than 5 years
    https://www.geek.com/apple/phil-schi...uters-1650316/

I think a 10 year old Mac should be used as a project/ornament only, not worth chucking money on as it won't run a current OS and so can't run current apps.

    Thanks to evilsatan

Thanks. It is bullshit comments like that from Apple why I chose to abandon them about 10 years ago and never look back.

Overpriced hardware that in my experience doesn't last long. Yes it works well when it works but personally 5 years is fuck all. My current PC is about 5 years old.
Core i7, 3.7 GHZ, 16GB Ram, 2TB HDD. etc. If MS / Intel or whoever told me that it is "sad" and I should bin it and buy a new one I would tell them to fuck off too.

    Really hate Apple arrogance !
