Been given an old MacBook Pro A1150 (2006 model)

It has no battery, but a quick google showed me I can get a replacement for £16 delivered so thought I would order one and let the kids use it.

However, it does not boot up when connected to mains. It has a green light on the charger plug and when I press the power button it flashes for a second but nothing more, I can hear a faint noise inside, but nothing spins up, no display etc as if dead. Don't really wanna buy a battery for nothing so wondered if there is anything anyone suggests trying before I bin it.

Or is there a way to determine the fault so I can see if it is a cheap fix ?? Not played around with Apple bollox for ages.

Cheers all
