Hi all, has anyone put this on their Pi?

I ordered a Pie 3, 32gb SD and case from Amazon. Cost me £50. Planning to use PS3 controller with it.

After all the fuss about SNES mini i thought I would give this a go and try some of the old games from my youth

Not the same but I put retroarch on my Amazon fire tv box and bought some game controllers and it works a treat. The PlayStation emus were all a problem though but ePSXe works for those games.

I made a little emulator box for a mate from work using a Pi and Retropie. It did the job just fine. Loaded the thing with SNES, Megadrive and Neo Geo games. He didn't even know you could do that and was chuffed to bits.

Yeah i've used RetroPie a few times, very easy to setup and get up and running quickly.

I ended up loading all the roms onto my NAS and setting up RetroPie to load the roms from an SMB share.
Fairly straight forward to do, i can then access the roms from all my Pi's in the house and I only have to update the roms on the server and then they all get access to them

Lakka is another option based upon RetroArch and has Raspi builds.

Retropi is ace, my only gripe is the scraper for ROM info can be incredibly slow. If you're not bothered about that sort if thing then go for it.

Also, great controller support. I use a Pie 3 with a wireless ps3 controller, or use a USB arcade stick for the games that warrant it.

Built my own tabletop arcade machine last year with a Pi3. Great project to occupy some time.
Roms on a usb for ease of update. Rather than a complete library of games I just selected a couple dozen favorites. Retropie and EmulationStation work pretty well together.
Also added a few 8 and 16 bit games too.

Stupid question time, where do you get your ROMS? I am OK at sourcing most other stuff but I can never seem to find a reliable way of getting roms

newsgroups for collections or emuparadise for single roms for me.

Not as far as im aware, your best bet is a raspberry pi 3.
You can get a brand new kit (with case, power supply, sd card etc.) for around ?65 on amazon.co.uk

I just got my self a pi3 for this very reason I picked up a kit for 48. It came with the case, powersupply , 2 heatsink, thermal paste and also a 32gb micro sd. I thought it was a good offer came within a few days, got some arcade controllers to make some usb arcade sticks for most games and use an only ps3 pad for the games that would be better with a pad.

Just need to get some time to sort it all out now lol

I got one a while ago as part of my shelf didnt have anything to protect it from dust.

I fiddled around with the official image, adding my romsets I've had for years and scraping the artwork and shit for the best part of 3 days. After hitting various issues I found some info (on youtube) about some prebuilt images, coming in various sizes for different sized SD cards, threw one of those on and bob was my uncle. I got a 32gig microSD, but I'll probably up it to a 128 soon as the wife needs a 32gig for something or other.

Are you going with a CRT or a LCD screen?

I was in Japan earlier in the year and played a load of old, but beautifully restored CRT arcades and I really wanna build my own but everyone seems focused on using an LCD.

Gotta be honest. I've hardly used mine. Mario Kart is unplayable with the PS4 controller. It is too sensitive. Took me an hour to win a game on Streetfighter

    Recommend me a controller

We have a few old crt monitors in school so I’m going to use one of them.
in total I’ve spent around €100 for the pi and the controllers, I just need the monitor and the wood for the frame.
