Default What remote home heating to get?

Looking for advice on what is the best "remote thermostat" control option to go with. You know the Hive, Nest stuff that allows remote control of the main thermostat and individual TRVs.

We have a Baxi Maine Eco 30 boiler with timer function on it also.

    The kitchen has 1 rad
    Rear lounge has 2 rads
    Front lounge has 1 rad
    Study has 1 rad
    Hallway has 1 rad
Each bedroom has 1 rad each (total of 3)
The bathroom has a towel warmer rad

I have no clue on this stuff but want to be able to remotely control individual Rads from within the house but also the ability to control over the internet.

All advice and suggestions will be very gratefully received

    Cheers

I've got 2 nests for my zoned system, installed the one that takes care of heating and hot water and attempting to install the second today but a bit confused on the wiring.

I think the Nest has the best design and interface which is why I chose that over Hive etc.

    Thanks to evilsatan

I have 1 nest and very happy with it. Doesn't control individual rads though and not sure if it can.

I went for the tado system last year 'cos it was the cheapest option at the time. nothing to compare it to but it does work well. Still not got round to swapping over the water control so just got the heating control set up at the mo. Also has wireless trvs available separately for each rad at ~?60 a piece so each rad can be controlled on its own

Problem I've had in recent years and not related to the tado is that I've had to turn the water temp up in colder times in order to get the heating to kick in. Think it's more to do with the legacy system and 2-port valve though.

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/test-c...-2018-3583499/ was published a few days ago so might be worth a read if you haven't already.

Cheers guys. Will have a look at each of the options. I think if it's going to cost potentially ?600 for TRVs on my rads, I may re-think that and perhaps pop just a couple on the rads that are more frequently used.

If you want to control each rad separately , you will have to get WiFi enabled trv’s.

    I have this,

    http://www.directheatingsupplies.co.uk/salus-it500-internet-enabled-programmable-thermostat?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8rjo_o3X2AIVo7DtCh3qwwQtEAAYAiAAEgJVYPD_BwE

it just controls the heating as a whole, and the hot water, because I have a pressurised cylinder. But it will work with a combi too, you just need a different receiver. It’s cheap for what it does.
i paid a lot more for it as I’ve had it for years.
TAR seems to be a decent bloke!

Another one here who has the Nest,I have the heating on all day from 7.00AM till 9.00PM,I just vary the temp at certain times. It's barely on more than 6hrs,some days half that. The Nest app knows if you're at home or away by using your GPS on your phone so it knows to switch to eco mode.
If you can it's best to wire it up using it's 'OpenTherm' capabilities where the Nest 'talks' to the boiler where it can modulate the burner etc

    Thanks to Oily

I've gone full on wireless TRV on every rad. Wifi isn't really an option as wifi is pretty inefficient in these cases when battery powered.

Optons therefore generally require a hub. I've gone with Homematic (was the cheapest cost per TRV). But z-wave is another option.

Max! Are cheaper than homematic but don't do two way communication

    Thanks to flipper321

I should have gone for individual TRV type but I've bought the hive pack for just ?65. Not fitted it yet so can't comment on how it performs but let's face facts it is a fancy timer. Ideal for me as I work away and could have to stay additional nights, unplanned.
