Default BT Ultrafast (g.fast) is finally here. Woop woop !!!

Been in trial for what seems like years but it is now up to order from BT on the link below or from a couple of other provider (only talk talk from what I could see)

    Option 1 : Upto 150MB = £54.99
    Option 2 : Upto 314MB = £59.99

I believe both offer ??? up. They are guaranteeing a minimum of 100MB and if you don't you can get £20 compo paid upto 4 times per year e.g every time it drops below.
Edit: Option 1 upload is 29MB and Option 2 49MB
The extra £5 is a no brainer.

Was involved in the very early stages of this years ago and still have peeps I know that work there.
The general rule is that if you are within 350M of your cabinet you should get full speed. Greater distances may cause lower speeds and distances over 500M are generally assumed you wont get better speeds using g.fast tech than the speeds you are already getting.

Not a lot of exchanges are enabled yet but now it is official the pods that they fit to the side of the PCP/Cabinet's are actually fitted fairly easily and quickly so with any luck rollout should speed up dramatically.

check out the link below to see if you can get it.

These speeds are achieved over FTTC and it actually is cheaper than FTTP. If you are an FTTP customer and cannot get this cheaper product I have heard if you phone and moan they will price match your FTTP product at the g.fast prices. (with a contract extension of course)

Edit: So what if this tech or something newer can be applied to the FTTP setup. What speeds are yet to come :-)

"Ultrafast Fibre isn’t available where you live right now You can still get speeds of up to 80Mb with Unlimited Infinity 2. So there’s nothing to stop you streaming, gaming, watching and downloading at home"

ill have to wait , although 76 meg downloads and 18-20 uploads are fine for me for £34 a month

    Thanks to Mickey

Forgive my ignorance here, are the only true benefits for heavy use households, that need to share the bandwidth between them all?

For the most part. Also if you are streaming 4k content it would help if you have kids downloading etc at the same time.
Although with 30MB up you could run a web server for a handful of low traffic websites. ;-)

ANYTHING over 80meg is overkill for downloads speed and 20 uploads speed for watching movies Evan at 4k

dpends on if your greedy and download lots of filez, but that time for me has passed. why bother downloading a 4 gig blue ray film when you can simply stream it
    straight to your andoid box

"While you can watch the Hulu streaming library in Standard Definition with a download speed of at least 1.5 Mbps, we require the following minimum download speeds in order to stream in higher resolutions: 720p HD: 3 Mbps. 1080p HD: 6 Mbps. 4K Ultra HD: 13 Mbps."

Personally I am happy with my 80/20. Would I upgrade, of course I would cos I am a cunt like that and would want the fastest I could get for no good reason.

However I wouldn't bother at that price and part of me is glad I can't get it as I would somehow convince myself the price wasn't too steep. Fortunately for me in the 18months it will probably take to enable my exchange it will probably be more like sub £40

Also one thing I didn't pay attention to in the above pricing structure was if it included line rental or not ??? If not they can fuck right off .

Edit: Nowhere seems to mention Line Rental and as I cannot order I can't go far enough to see if it is included or not..

    Thanks to piggzy

Meh you'd be surprised. I have 1000/100 Fibre to the home in Toronto and there have been times where you question how the fuck one can use so much bandwidth so quickly that or the router chokes because its broadcasting 4k at the same

Was meant to post this on the other broadband thread some time ago, he are the first areas getting the ultra-fast upgrade.

46 locations as part of our pilot deployment phase:
    •Armley, West Yorkshire
    •Balham, South London
    •Bath Kingsmead, Somerset
    •Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire
    •Bolton, Greater Manchester
    •Brierley Hill, West Midlands
    •Brighton Hove, East Sussex
    •Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
    •Cherry Hinton, Cambridgeshire
    •Chorlton, Manchester
    •Derby, Derbyshire
    •Donaldson, Edinburgh
    •Eltham, South London
    •Gillingham, Kent
    •Glasgow Bridgeton
    •Glasgow Douglas
    •Glasgow Langside
    •Great Barr, West Midlands
    •Hammersmith, West London
    •Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
    •High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
    •Hunslet, West Yorkshire
    •Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
    •Kidbrooke, South London
    •Liverpool Central
    •Lofthouse Gate, West Yorkshire
    •Luton, Bedfordshire
    •Manchester East
    •Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
    •Newbury, Berkshire
    •Newcastle upon Tyne
    •Newmarket, Suffolk
    •North Birmingham
    •Parsons Green, West London
    •Portsmouth North End
    •Pudsey, West Yorkshire
    •Rochdale, Manchester
    •Rusholme, Manchester
    •Sheffield, South Yorkshire
    •South Clapham, South London
    •St. Austell, Cornwall
    •Swansea, Wales
    •Swindon, Wiltshire
    •Upton Park, East London
    •Wandsworth, South London and
    •Whitchurch, South Glamorgan

as part of the upgrade an engineer is going to come out do a socket move in required at no extra cost, they also check the wireless connections in the house to give you the best wireless connection, which i thought was a good idea especially if you are one of those people who line is within a metre of your doorway.

i cant understand why the speeds are guaranteed at 100mb on both you would have thought the faster speed would of had a higher guaranteed speed.

it should take long to roll out to most cabinets as they dont require any planning permission as the g fast box will just bolt onto the side of existing cabinets.
