BBC News Kiara Moore dies after car found in River Teifi, Cardigan

Is it just me thinks this is dodgy as fuck

A child has died after being pulled from a car found in a river near her family's outdoor pursuits business.

Kiara Moore, two, was found in the River Teifi in Cardigan on Monday.

Her father said she had been left in the car while the driver got cash from the office.

When the driver returned, the car was missing and initially feared stolen. A large police search followed and the car was found in the water just under two hours later, with Kiara inside.

In a Facebook post which has since been deleted, her father, Jet Moore, suggested Kiara's death was an accident after the car had rolled down a slipway into the river.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed it was not looking for anyone else in connection with its investigation.

It had followed fears shortly after Kiara was discovered missing that the car had been stolen with her inside, after social media posts were made by her mother appealing for information.

During the two-hour search, Dyfed-Powys Police appealed for sightings of the car and later confirmed it had been found in the river with Kiara inside.

She was pulled from the car by police officers and airlifted to hospital but later died.

The coroner has been informed of Kiara's death.

In a Facebook statement which he has since deleted, her father Jet Moore wrote: "They got in the car to go home. Sat on bank card which snapped and needed money to get home etc.

"Went back to the office to get money from the desk and came back to no car.

"Looked in the river. No signs. So we thought she and the car had been taken."

He said police had found the car a while later and "went way beyond the call of duty jumping in and pulling her out".

"They tried to revive her for hours but unfortunately could not," he added.

Police said they first received a call "as to whereabouts of a silver Mini" which had been last seen at the old Scout Hall, near the river, at about 15:30 GMT on Monday.

At the height of the search there were 30 emergency service personnel from police, fire and coastguard units in Cardigan.

A search of the river continued into the evening after Kiara was found.

Noel Lewis, who runs the Pioneer Garage on the other side of the slipway where the car was last seen, said he often saw a silver Mini parked there.

He said of the slipway: "It's concrete, about four or five foot, going down into the river bed, which is quite deep,"

The slipway where the car was parked

Social media posts showed a large police presence in Cardigan near the castle on Monday afternoon

In a tweet in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Sadly, we confirm that Kiara Moore, aged 2 (27/3/15) was pronounced dead at the UHW, Cardiff last night, having being recovered from a car in the River Teifi, Cardigan yesterday afternoon (19th March 2018).

"Kiara's family is being supported by specialist officers."

Kiara would have celebrated her third birthday next Tuesday.

Jet Moore confirmed Kiara had died in a Facebook post, saying: "Thank you all for your help this evening. A mega thank you the officers who jumped in the river and the rest of the emergency services for all they did. Unfortunately Kiara had an amazing but short life."

He later wrote in tribute to his daughter: "She was an incredible happy young girl who lived I hope a great adventurous fun life. And may have done more than most people. Been skiing twice and skied her self. Paddled the great glen Scotland. Paddles the Wye.

"Played on every beach we could. Had a loving family and made us all happy.

"She always wanted to be called RAR RAR which was our nickname for her. Love her so much."

Dozens of people posted messages of condolence on Facebook to Mr Moore and Kim Rowlands, Kiara's mother.

The couple run an outdoor pursuits business, Adventure Beyond, which has a booking office at the old Scout hall near the river, next to where the car was last seen.

Ola Kowlaow was passing by the scene when she said she saw a woman in distress.

"My son say 'mommy she's crying'," she said, adding she had asked what had happened.

"[The woman] said 'Someone's kidnapped my kids [sic], my daughter in the car."

Ms Kowlaow said she had checked but had seen nothing, before the woman had "just run".

Dyfed-Powys Police's Deputy Chief Constable Darren Davies tweeted: "Tragic outcome and sincerest condolences to the family.

"Incredible bravery and selflessness shown by officers who entered the water and rescued the child."

Who in their right mind would leave their 2 year old child in a car alone and out of sight?

Exactly and on a slope leading to a river with no barrier or anything, first thing you would do is dive in the river not stand there looking and presuming as you couldn't see it then it wasn't there, something very wrong about this story.

I know it's a million miles away from neglecting a child, but I've left an unlocked car running many times in dodgy areas of London (just to warm the damn thing up), and I've also left a car full of tools unlocked a few times in dodgy areas of London out of sheer laziness because I (naively) felt no threat in the area I was in. If I lived in a quiet area of Wales I can easily imagine my inattention/carelessness becoming a million times worse.

From what I read, there was something like a 2 hour gap from when the car was reported stolen to when it was found. I could be wrong but I suspect if the parents were negligent their car rolled down a hill which caused this tragedy, or even if the incident was actually planned/staged we would have had a shorter gap between stolen car and the sad ending to this story.

I just don't get it, looking at how steep the ramp is no way you wouldn't have the handbrake on and probably the car in gear, if it was not on it would have just instantly rolled. At least it won't be a Maddie Mccain story as if it's foul play I would guess the kid was dead before the car went in the water so an autopsy will show that.

This is so sad. I couldn't imagine losing a child.

However, I could imagine not posting about it on social media the fucking day it happens.

something about it is so odd, I know grief can do strange things but to post on Facebook this..

Kiara's mother paid a heartfelt tribute to her daughter on Facebook today.
She wrote: 'Sadly yesterday my beautiful baby girl passed away! Due to my own stupidity, I will have to live with the guilt for the rest of my life!
'Mummy loves you baby girl and I'm so sorry!'

"so Sorry" you didnt bang her head against a wall you let her fucking drown! Would never let my 3 year old out of my sight

Yeah just re-read it as I glossed over it earlier and missed a few bits.
I am now suspicious as fuck about this and the circumstances.

I smell a huge rat. Sounds very dodgy.

Dodgy as fuck this. Either something happened to the little lass and they covered it up they decided to use the stolen car / it rolled off by itself cover up. To be honest, she could have even been in perfect health before the car went in, knowing full well her survival chances were pretty much zero. Of course we could ALL be barking up the wrong tree and this could just be the consequences of absolute fuckwittery on the mothers part but the only non-suspicious reason I can think the car ended up rolling would be the result of an electronic handbrake failure... but that car would have made an almighty splash AND would have taken a few minutes to go under I suspect.

Yeah I think we need to await a full investigation by the police first to see if there's anything in the car that can indicate discrepancies.

This is the problem these days. There is an alarming increase of people who can't determine the boundaries between social media and reality and feel the need to document the majority of their daily business on their timeline (then fucking re-share that shit 3 years later). I can't remember what discussion it was a few days back but CZ posted a very valid comment in relation to this problem. It just seems that there is is crazy need for people to crave attention so everything merges into one.

Therefore, it probably came naturally to get straight onto Facebook for "reactions".

Fucking wrong irrespective of how your child dies. If I was ever in a situation like this, I'd be destroyed, a complete quivering wreck and probably end up under very heavy sedation.

On my current car the handbrake has failed twice leading to it rolling into things. First was 2 weeks after I had it and it rolled into a fence at work and did minor damage to the bonnet. Second was about 3 weeks ago, parked in Lidl and someone parked nose to nose with my car and bumped it slightly causing it to roll back into a fence post. Minor damage to back bumper....

I am super aware of parking on slopes and definitely wouldn’t leave any child in such a situation.

Even with the handbrake working perfectly, nothing to stop a 2 yr old getting out of their car seat and playing with the handbrake as they have seen either of their parents using it.

I still believe a normal person in the right frame of mind wouldn't leave a 2 year old in a car alone and out of sight.

    Thanks to Rhinoz
