Default New bit of kit being used by police.

BBC Victoria Derbyshire video about a new gadget the police are using to get data off your mobile. Interesting stuff

Worrying from a privacy perspective, I assume they’d still need your unlock code for some devices like the iPhone but not sure why deleted content is retained. I read about another tool the police were using that can crack iPhone unlock codes:

They have just got all the criminal tools and rolled them into a nice little package ;-)

I guess that files are deleted similar to windows on most phones where the header is stripped and the blocks not emptied just marked for reuse.

Didnt see Snapchat on the list maybe that really is ephemeral after all or was it just not installed?

Another device for the police to abuse. I fail to see how this helps solve crimes on a day to day. Get of your arse and do some real work, and try preventing crime instead of watching it happen and recording it.

    Shit really boils my piss.

If I recall they always had some sort of way of doing this anyway. Sure I've been nicked before and when asked about who i wanted to call and I said my missus, they named her and said oh that must be her. If they hadn't already pulled my phone book how would they know that. (It was the only number i had at the time in favourites).

I would rather smash my phone up than hand it over to the fuzz to read my emails and look at my pictures.

If it does iphones why all the hassle with the FBI unlocking a phone.

From what I gather the FBI had some exploits at their disposal but wanted precedent to be set in the courts for if/when their exploit was patched or to give them sweeping powers.
