    Default Car Reg issues

Hello, I recently bought a 59 plate Ford focus, I got it quite cheap as it needed a few minor jobs doing to it. The problem I have is finding parts for it. for example if i try to get parts from Andrew page/Eurocarparts or even Ford itself whenever i put my reg number in it doesnt recognise it, i have to input all the details manually, not a massive chore I know, but a little bit inconvenient. I looked through my service book and found that my car originally came from Lucas Imossi motors in Gibraltar. I also had difficulty in getting insurance for it as it wasn't showing on their database either, I eventually got it insured but was a real time consuming process. Is there any way to remedy this at all, the DVLA have it registered it just doesn't appear on most databases.

I've seen this a lot with with. It's to do with buying database information etc.

Sounds crazy but the easiest way around this is to put a new registration on the car. As this forces the DVLA systems to refresh your car data. Which in turn feeds our to all the companies that buy the data to use on their look ups.

Any reg will do, some start from £50.

No other method will work I'm afraid.

Thanks BigBrand, after transfer fees and VAT etc its quite a lot of money to pay for a minor inconvenience really. My car was originally from Gibraltar, then moved to Jersey, and then to where it is now, so its travelled quite a way.

    Agreed. It's not cheap overall.

I'd carry on as you are to be honest.

This could work out two ways...…

Thinking optimistically, it will just take you a little longer looking up your car to get the right bits.

Thinking pessimistically, you could end up buying loads of incorrect parts that you can't return, and you could find each time you stick the car in a workshop it takes them much longer than first expected due to confusion over parts.

So far the companies I've dealt with regarding parts have all taken the bits back if not the correct item, I was also given this link to give me some idea of what to look for; https://7zap.com/en/, somebody on here might also find it useful.

    Thanks to DrEdDy
