    Advice Burglar Alarm Advice Needed

After our robbery last year we were advised we now need an alarm fitted for our insurance company to continue to cover us.

They have stipulated it must be connected to the local police station, and that it must be covered by a maintanance contract by a company approved by National Security Inspectorate (NSI) or Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB).

Another issue we have is that the walls in our house are paper thin and people often get up/go to bed at completely different times. Most alarms I've seen tend to have a panel that bleeps very loudly when buttons are pressed, and when the house is entered. Due to our usage we would find this impossible to live with.

Anyone got any suggestions for me?

Sorry to hear you were robbed, best bet would be to get a major company in such as Banham, ADT etc and let them tell you the options.

With most alarms you can set zones so would be okay for the toilet usage etc.

two big dogs will keep the Burgers out :-) - alarms can have mutuality set modes so you can have one for when you are in or in bed, one when your out of the house, your suppler will be able to advise on the options

this may help find reputable alarm installers in your area https://www.nsi.org.uk/directory/#topform

Thinking outside the box, thought about getting a normal alarm that suits your house and changing insurance company?

Aviva and Direct Line offer full home and contents with no requirement for an alarm!

That's not a bad suggestion, and it is something we have considered.

However this requirement only came after we got robbed and insurance paid out.

I have a funny feeling other insurance companies might go down the same route once we declare the settlement for loss, and also our insurance company were as reasonable as we could have expected, we decided better to stick with them rather than move to another firm that might try and dodge any claims for reasons they make up on the spot.
