    Default Programmer for am29f040b chip...

My EvoX 2.2 modchip came on a am29f040b chip... Recently rumors have begun spreading of a EvoX 2.3... So i'd like to be able to program this into my chip to replace the 2.2 bios. I /THINK/ this requires an external programmer, or would the EvoX cd work??

FYI: I purchased this from prem0dded...

www.devrs.com has some info on how to make your own for cheap ($20-30). If you want to buy one, expect to pay over $100. They're expensive like that.

Actually the programmer for that chip is about $399 for cheapest.

www.labtool.com sells em you have to look up your chip to see if its compatible and then you prob have to buy an adapter too, for another 150.

    Ok...
So it's either build one or use the XBOX itself...
Does ANYONE know if EvolutionX can program this chip the same way it would an original bios? Or would i have to run it to find out? Also if it couldnt communicate with the chip would it harm my chip in any way??

The way the homebrew modchip(AM29F040)is wired into Xbox:A18(pin1) not connected and WE(pin31)going to +5V, you can't program it. However, I beleive if you connect pin1(A18) to the appropriate place(right above A16(pin2) and A17(pin30) and disconnect pin31 from 5v and connect it to ground, it should be programmable.
If you want to build a cheap and reliable flash programmer, go here:

and get Flash Memory Programmer by EZo ver2.0.

ive got the scematics for the Flash Memory Programmer by EZo ver2.0 and sent them to the household technical expert (read: dad) and he says its not that hard looking, so we'll probably go that route to upgrade my chip. Thanks to everyone for your help!
