That isn't right but the big wigs eat like that everywhere else, it's like the food chain.

    Damn, I'm clever.

This is pretty typical of high society. Their guilt over being wealthy forces them to participate in these social-awareness events. Its completely transparent.

This reminds me of my mother's bosses at work (a clinic). The man and woman (married) are each fantastically wealthy ($40 million a piece, she tells me), and participate in these events on a regular basis. They're both liberal democrats that pay practically no taxes, thanks to loopholes for the rich, but expect everyone else to pay their full share. Recently, the husband bought his wife a piece of jewelry with around 1 million $.

I don't have any problem with wealthy people spending their money. I'll even tolerate conspicuous consumption. But to claim that you're interested in the plight of starving people while you pay no taxes and spend millions in luxuries? That's despicable.

secks I think you misunderstand, this summit is for world leaders, not rich individuals. Its is those officials that the people elect who will be dining here.

In any case, the amount of money it costs to pay for this dinner is insignificant next to the potential aid packages/economic plans devised at this conference.

If so, my mistake. I thought wealthy private citizens were in attendance as well (that's what I get for only reading snippets).

I do not agree with your rationalization of this unnecessary consumption. This is a summit on starvation ; lobster and caviar are not prudent.

Yeah I agree, they should 'downsize'. they could of atleast had reasonable food to kind bring the idea of starvation to their pallettes, salads, pastas, rices. That sort of thing to kind of theme the event. I know at the 40 hour famines they can only eat popcorn and water up here...or like buns. Simple foods to give that sense of distress those of lower classes endure.--
