Default Is it possible to INSTALL Windows XP with the Windows XP sp1 ?

I've waited to do the upgrade to XP because the apps I use most; 3dsmax, Maya, xsi etc. have been more stable on
    Windows 2000 Professional than on
Windows XP Professional - that is, until now - I've been told they've become pretty OK on XP by now.

I've looked around a little, but, I guess since the orginal
Windows XP Professional release is so old by now, there aren't many people who bother keeping it still on their ftps.

However, I came across a "Warez" website, which offered the Windows XP SP 1 as a "warez-download"..??

Could it be that this package, extracted and burned to a cd, could be used to INSTALL Windows XP - not just update it? That is, if one had the right serial. Or what was it about that serial - did you have to have a KEYGEN instead?

Also, on another website, filled with "hking" info, I found a little folder called :

    Windows XP setup

    26.09.2002 08:03 110 AUTORUN.INF
    26.09.2002 08:03 1 616 811 ACT20.EXE
    26.09.2002 08:04 1 194 496 FASTWIZ.EXE
    26.09.2002 08:04 1 310 720 SETUP.EXE
    26.09.2002 08:04 3 470 848 MSRDPCLI.EXE
    26.09.2002 08:03 45 056 Windows XP Professional Keygen.exe
    6 File(s) 7 638 041 bytes

What are these meant to do? The SETUP.EXE is v 5.1.2600.0
    - that's the original RTM XP version, right? Could these files do anything helpful, if the SP1 wont do the job, that is?

Please excuse me for being very stupid if all my ideas on this matter is 100% BS...?! I just thought maybe I'd found an easy way.. so I'm curious if I actually *have* done that, you know?

sp1 is only an update to the original windows xp cds. so you should install windows xp, then go install sp1.
if you find something like windows xp sp1 slip streamed, that means that sp1 has been directly embedded into the full windows installation so you wont need to download it seperately

Yes, I know it's usually this way.
However, I once compared the Maya 4.02, which is kind of an SP2, with Maya 4.0 - and I saw that they was about exactly the same size, same number of files etc. - so I found that if you have the TRiNiTY Maya 4.0 keygen, you can get Maya this way. And at the place where I worked a couple of years ago, the IT-admin gave me this cd with Windows 2000 with SP1 included.. "slip streamed", you say? I've heard that expression before, but I've always thought it had something to do with multimedia (because of the "streaming", you know!) I'll have to look that up afterwards.

You sure? I did a quick search right now, and what I saw was in fact the opposite...? Could you please give me some links to the benchmaks you're refering to (especially if they're 3D/CGI related) ?

also, the file was 6 files? ever setup windows before? there's hundreds of files, you think they condensed it into 6 for xp? never.
Eh - the XP sp1 package isn't 6 files of course - it's 1430 files, with a total filesize of 176 MB, and since most of the files are "MS-compressed" - like 1394bus.sy_, 6to4svc.dl_ etc, it's a pretty big archive..
No, those "6 files" I refered to, was in a folder I found on some anon ftp. I thought maybe this was the latest in the "Windows Update" system: When installing Windows 2000, if you can't boot from your CD-ROM, you must use 4 diskettes to get the system booted and have a simple GUI & the "elimination method" hardware-checking started - and when the CD-ROM has got its drivers, then the real installation process can begin, from the CD. Now, suppose an Internet connection was sat up instead, logging you on to http://shop.microsoft.com/store/ - then you choose your OS, pay with your VISA - and the installation process begins.. you would need to have a DSL/cable/Tx connection of course. I currently have 2Mbs, meaning in would take about 20 min to get 250 MB through, and the last time I installed WinMe (which I use for games) - it took *much* more than 20 min..
So, I guess this is the way every OS-installation will be handled in a couple of years, don't you think ?

Btw, thank you very much for your replies!
