Default direct x prob after hd install and driver update

hey all... prob i cant figure out:
    specs-

    Pentium 4 1.8 gigahertz
    400 w power supply
    384 megs rd ram
    40 gig hd (original one)
60 gig hd (just installed - prob causing problem)
sound blaster audigy platinum w/live drive
    10/100 network card
    geforce 4 ti 4600
5 fans (also could be a problem)

ok, i recently installed a new western digital 60 gig hd i had to switch up some of the (power wires) to have everything plugged in.. including 5 fans, i had to remove my video card in order to get the HD in, plugged everything back in, booted up, HD worked fine. when i went to run Soldier of Fortune II and Battlefield 1942 i get horrible FPS, unplayable #'s like 10 fps... prior to the new hd i was getting around 80-90 fps.... however when i run hitman 2(open gl) the game runs perfect which i cant understand... im hoping someone can help me out... thanks in advance

also i jus installed the beta drivers from nvidia

ps video card is on IRQ with no other conflict

Its most likely the fact you updated your drivers.
Beta means its still under testing that could be the real reason your havin problems. But I'll assume the betas are ok and what happened is you had a remnant of a older driver left behind when you updated and thats the cause of your problems. Goto http://www.guru3d.com and grab the detonator destroyers. follow instructions on how to change your drivers. Ie device manager .display adapter, update drivers,
Pick standard vga. ignore warning about wrong driver type.
Before reboot run det destroyer to delete remnants of old drivers then reboot. After reboot display will look like shit. dont worry again go into device managed display adapter update drivers now pick the driver set you want to install and let the pc do its thing. after another reboot your drivers should be installed with no remnants. you may reinstall directx to be sure all the required dx drivers are loaded. If doing this still doesnt resolve your issue then revert back to that last set of release official drivers and perform the same routine to change the drivers. I know its a little bit of a pain to do it this way. but I have not had any problems with my gf cards since I started using the detonator destroyers and this method.
    Best of luck to ya
