Why gamecube will win the console race

Quiet Simply no-one will ever craft a game like nintendo but the sad fact of the matter is the Zelda's and Mario's and other biggies from Nintendo like f Zero waverace and ur 1080 Avalanches are so far and few between that its a neccesity to have another machine.
Look on the bright side though we still have another zelda to look forward to not to mention a mario 128 game and the big N always have sumthin sneaky up ther
e sleeves.

the best thing nintendo ever made was the GBA or maybe the snes.

Thats a blanket dismisal which even I ( a big Xbox fan and someone who has issue with nintendo and its consoles) cannot ignore - if you can so completely right it off please explain why.

I submit for the jury (ABCman will be defending the xbox next!!)

good controllers - esp the wireless wavebird
cheap as chips to buy console
small light compact in size

I know I know this post is OLD but I thought I'd bring it up anyway.

A lot has changed since this post was made 4 years ago and the last reply was made over 1.5 years ago.

Looks like the Gamecube didn't win, PS2 came first and then Xbox and finally the GC.

The GC might overtake the Xbox in sales with Zelda upcoming though but I doubt it.

wow - that was a long time ago.
And now we doing it all again with the 360 vs Wii vs PS3. Oh how things change but stay the same.

I was right about the popularity of the GC tho.

it was interesting to look back, i never thought much of the cubes chances back then. it was a great machine but its launch was one of nintendos weakest, a disapointing luigi game along with a disapointing mario game a while after. Zelda got a rather luke warm reception too with its cell shaded gfx.

Thinks are very different now, the DS has raised nintendos cred through the roof, theyre much more stable to promote the wii and the competition is different, its not even in the same market as the big two now and sony are losing respect all the time too, the amound of broken 360s cant have done MS much good either.

I cant wait to see what comes from this war, i think it may have some more drastic results than last time too.
If Ms fail again they may just shelve the whole xbox project, afterall theyre only in it for the money and so far its been an imense loss for them, if sony fail then theyre probably going to go into bankruptcy and in the wii fails then they will probably just stick with handhelds.

lol u are so wrong. ms have beaten the pc market hands down, they now want to do the same in your living room. I bet bill has used the phrase money no object more than once with xbox

the pc market wasnt actually a challenge tho was it, he wasnt competing against 2 other companies that have been market leaders for years, 2 "failures" and billions of $$ losses, he cant be that stupid to try a third time if the 360 failed surely.

long term goals mate. We just dont think in the right same way as a billion dollar business's do - the PC market, home entertainment market, video, music, online sales - its all coming together and what happens in the next few years its going to dictate how it plays out for the next 10 - 15. MS is using the xbox to position itself in your lounge for this reason. If you take all the techy stuff out of using a PC but it was still able to do all the same things then everyone would have one and this is the long term goal, (xbox 3 or 4)

MS lose 50 million here or there - no problem.

Also the PC market was'nt a one horse race - apple did computers instead of MP3 players back in the 80's.

besides who says xbox was a failure, I loved mine, played loads on Live and xbmc is ace - I know that has nothing to do with MS but I dont care if is a success for them or not I only care if its a success for me and it was.

still played the 'cube more than any other console. However, the ps2 was great (before the laser decided to drop) and now i've only just embarked on the xbox I can safely say they are all excellent in their own way.

ps2 had solid games, a nice looking console and a damn fine pad.
gamecube has many fun games, wavebirds are super (especially in packs of 4

) but the console was purple... humm, purple...still no idea why they did that.
xbox - unlimited potential but slightly pushed back by the pad, I just don't like it as much. XBMC - ok, it's god huge positives, game wise, it's not bad at all, but I don't like Halo and stuff, so I feel it's less geared towards my gaming tastes, and between this and ps2 it'd be a ps2, even without a laser

eeeh anyway,

Trying to decide weather to chip my littlun's cube or not right now, we have two modded xbox's which has deffinatly one hands down in this house,the PS2 has been gathering dust since we got the first xbox,but strangly the cube has not.
Im finding trouble getting sources for the cube now its in its latter days,and as you cant ask for sources its probubly not guna end up modded now. I think Im guna buy a couple of DS lites for the kids instead. Shame realy I loved the cube myself always fun to play,again and again,Nintendo always manages to capture that special element of gaming.

I really think it would be interesting to see these peoples' revised opinions on the state of gaming, given the 11 year gap between this thread's initial inception and now. Honestly, fe_man2000's opinion is what would interest me the most, considering he's revisited this thread twice, after considerable time gaps.
