What kit would I need to receive multiple text msgs?

I've just been asked at work to set up a dedicated mobile line to which people could text to register votes?

This will be receiving quite a few thousand votes and I don't know what kit to buy? I was thinking of one of those small PDA things that they have on the Radio Stations or on RI:SE in the morn??? Whould that do it?
