P4 2.53 overclocking help

Hello,

I got a P4 2.53 just before xmas. wheres the best place to start to overclock it? (iam just using the heatsink and fan supplyed)

With a Pentium 4 your option is limited to increasing your Front Side Bus. Is the system not fast enough for you or are you just wanting to experiment? Reason I'm asking is because you're only prepared to use the basic kit you got with the PC, and also without more system information it's difficult to say whether an overclock would be beneficial to you or not.

just want a bit play about system speed is fine the min.

my full system specs are

P4 2.53ghz, mattsonic motherboard (shite i know but getting a abit 1 soon) 512mb ddr 2700, ati radeon 9700, 80gig ata133 7200rpm think thats about it

what heatsink are u using currently?
A stable overclock depends on two things usually. You colling and your motherboard. Some motherboard just dont like to be overclocked. Some, like the Abit IT7-Max2 take as much punishment as you can throw at them.

If your lucky u might be able to get up to 2.7 on the retail Intel Heatsink that comes with the CPU.

It's all about taking it slow tho. Just raise the FSB mhz by mhz untill thing start to get alittle unstable. Once you reach this far, take it down a notch. You can then start playing with your ram/agp settings to get the max out of those.

With a good heatsink/fan some 2.53ghz chips will get up to 3ghz, but at best you can get 2.8 out of them (like me)

Mine is overclocked to 2.9Ghz. With not much cooling than the bog standard one. Temperature levels are a little higher than usual (Asus P4T533 motherboard) and this has been my setup for over 5 months now.

Surely if you didn't use a better heatsink then the processor life would deteriorate quite a bit.

Is it possible to overclock a P4 2.53GHz, with a Intel motherboard, or have they completly stopped this?
