Nagra Rom 7 Cards / Digital Cable

I have a ROM 704 card but I can only read the ATR (tried 1st with Nagraedit and my old Elvis 3.5...
I can also read the ATR with sorryshakes but when I try and extract any info I get a failed dump and get told to adjust the TX timing which I've done.
I've seen other buttons in sorryshakes but I am reluctant to hit them (eg. Locked ROM3 check) in case they send the card too far over and lock me out.
As with everyone here I am frustrated. Does anyone have any definite way of determining if its the card that's locking out sorryshakes or just the fact that sorryshakes does not like WinXP?
I am using all of this under Windows XP with an Elvis 3.5 - what levels of success have people had under good old 98?
ps. Also tried freetalk to check if backdoor is enabled/disabled and still get timing errors. GUess I will have to try Win98
pps. Been and tried 98 with Sorryshakes and Freetalk (also tried freetalk in pure ms-dos).
I think that's pretty much all I can do... looks like I'll have to track down another box with a ROM 10 unless someone has any bright ideas... grrrr this is so frustrating...
