i have been given loads of floppy by my dad who has a cannon word proccesser to convert into word.

prob is i dont know how when i open with word its gobble de gook

1) You won't be able to read them on a PC unless the Cannon uses the same disk format, i.e. they have been formated using a DOS or Windows based utility.
2) Assuming you can read the disks in File Manager/ Windows Explorer, look to see what file extension the files use, and then start word and from the open file dialogue box, use the drop down list to open a file with the same extension, assuming that it's there.
3) You may not be able to convert them purely because either the Cannon WP uses it's own formtting which can't be read on anything else, or the text format is not readable by a wndows application
4) Try looking for a windows based emulation program that will then let you open the files - there are plenty around for MAC based WP's
5) See if you can save the files on the Cannon in a different format that Word can read such as WordPerfect
