ECM stands for Electronic Counter Measure, So it can be something like changing the backdoor keys, key codes, etc.

    Cheers m8,

so there is no actual damage to the box then only the card is locked out.

with the current ecm yes. but i think there was something about a year ago whereby one of the satellite broadcasters were sending out ecm's which did something to the boxes.

    maybe someone can confirm this.

I guess :-) they could do an "over the air" update of some kind, changing firmware, cam algo ....etc.

Yes - if they can ecm genuine cards, then funcards (which are just attempts to emulate real ones), can also be ecm'd.

What has happened in the satellite world is that it becomes a continual battle between the broadcasters and the hex file writers. After an ecm, people would lose pictures for a while, until the clever guys caught up. All part of the fun

BTW - don't be sorry for asking (sensible !) questions, thats what the forum is all about.

    Default rom 10 bloker

I have heard that there is a rom 10 blocker, that you can use so that the broadcasters can not write to the cards.

Anyone know where to find this

    Thanks
