ECM is short for Electronic Control Message. These are commands which are used to control the working of your card. ECM's are always sent as packets. Such a packet is called a Control Word (CW) and it contains coded keys, ID's etc. needed to decode the signal. In other words, the ECM identifies the service and the conditions that have to be met in order to use that service. Providers will also use fake ECM's to disable pirate cards. That is why a lot of people translate ECM as Electronic Counter Measure.
Elerror ECM (Entitlement Control Message) is a string that provides encrypted control words and other data that your card decrypts and sends back to the cam so you wuld have a picture on your tv. No ECM - no picture.

Thanks go to ML for this info
You say tomadoes , and i say tomatoes, tomatoes, tomadoes, tomatoes, tomadoes, lets ca............... :-)

Your proberbly right , but :-)
What it stands for *is* what *most* people understand it to stand for :-)

Do a www.groups.google.com or www.google.com for "Electronic Control Message" then do one for "Electronic Counter Measure" and let the results speak for themselfs :-)

Wow and there i was having great difficulty in understanding how to program the dam card.

It's a good job someone know somat about somat.

You are right though most people who had OnD, heard of ECM's and everytime someone mentioned it we thought sh*t time to update our cards.

Well i wasnt trying to be funny m8 ( there were no "lol" or "ha ha"), i was trying to explain what we average jo blo understand it to mean, without causing any friction, ive been around years aswell, so i knew that this reply could rub someone the wrong way, so i (tried to) made it clear that it wasnt meant that way with plenty of smilies :-)

What i was getting at is if someone here reads "electronic control measure" and then tries to learn more by searching for that term then they wont get very far. Wheras if they search for (wether its right or wrong) "electronic counter measure" then they will learn something, so IMHO its best to remain as electronic counter measure.

So ....@ probsat, i hope you understand what i was getting at m8 :-)

    [leark mode engaged]
